thoughts?

The Ottawa Sun puts out a lot of rumors and I hope this one is just that. A rumor.

We've had enough overpriced, aging wingers on this team, thank you very much!

Sidney the Kidney 11-28-2010 11:11 AM

I haven't seen any Florida games (other than the one against the Pens) this season. How has Stillman looked? Would his style mesh well with Geno (who I'm assuming he'll play with, since Sid's line is pretty much set in stone)?

Captain Hook 11-28-2010 11:13 AM

Depends how he plays. I doubt the Pens will want him if he keeps scoring just 3 goals every 20 games like he has so far this season.

I do think they'll go after a winger. I think the winger needs to have playoff experience like Stillman. We brought in Poni last year. He had played years worth of meaningless games in Toronto on bad teams and couldn't seem to make the adjustment to playing in big, high pressure type of games. That definitely makes me want a guy with playoff experience this time around.

As much as I think mark rechhi wouldnt fit in with the pens right now, i'd love to see him in a pens jersey again

icky

bradshaw06 11-28-2010 12:09 PM

probably unlikely, but id rather them try and get Booth from the panthers.

I'd rather bring back Guerin. Stillman sucks all the way around.

Not a chance. His salary is too high and he's one of the few players I think they'd like to keep.

UnderratedBrooks44 11-28-2010 12:31 PM

Nah, Stillman's done and makes too much money. I could see it if it we got screwed out of everyone else at the deadline and had just enough money to fit him but other than that, simply no.

NumeroSoixanteSix 11-28-2010 12:52 PM

I like Stillman mainly because he was a former Saint John Flame and still plays in the bigs. He also played a huge part in helping the canes win the cup in 06 and is quality player.

But his stats suggest he's starting to wear down and 3.5m hit is a lot.

Langenbrunner, Knuble, Sullivan have better numbers and are around the same price. Hejduk is has a 3.9 hit but is still producing at a high level - love to see him along side Gino or Sid.

Garrioch is a hack. In this same article, he twice referred to Sean Couturier as a defenseman.

Not to mention, Stillman isn't a terribly attractive option.

AugustBurnsRed* 11-28-2010 01:08 PM

I think the aging vet winger era is over.

Brayden Schenn, too. He's a pretty bad writer both in information and style.

Darth Vitale 11-28-2010 03:46 PM

Nothing to see here. The only surprise is the story didn't come from Edmonton rather than Ottawa.

Big McLargehuge 11-28-2010 03:49 PM

Stillman is shot. He's been completely invisible in every game I've seen him in this year.

laufer72 11-28-2010 04:26 PM

BWHAHAHAHAHA...

Bruce "Malkin to LA" Garrioch rides again!!!

Will not work now under the cap. Even tight for the deadline. Plus, this team needs more grinders.

mgd525 11-28-2010 05:30 PM

Stillman is done. Would have been nice in his younger years.

thejew09 11-28-2010 08:29 PM

I'm sick of 35+ year old rentals. So I sure hope Stillman doesn't make his way into our roster.

So random to see, but the dog in that commercial is mine. :)

Anyways, the article can't even be considered a rumor, just speculation based on Shero's trade deadline history. I don't know much about Stillman's game at this point, but he's probably another Guerin at best. I'd hope that if we're going to make a move Shero could find a better option to spend our remaining cap-space on.

TopShelfGoal 11-29-2010 02:19 AM

I'm not for it. Thru 20 games he's got 3 goals, 5 assists. At 36 years old he'll be lucky to see 15 goals. I'm not sure if he's the winger answer that we're looking for.

How is he on the PP? Does he even play on Florida's PP?

EdwardBlake 11-29-2010 04:11 AM

No thanks. If Shero deals for a winger I want him to throw together a nice package and get a legit winger that in the off season could be signed for 3-5 years.

If he can not get that I would rather him wait till the off season for the contracts that are ended to end and get a winger on the market and trade up in the draft if anything looks promising/worth grabbing.
