They just said on RIS that they received the information.

Markov will have a surgery on decembre 8th.

Season done!

cedouimet 12-03-2010 04:29 PM

I don't sign him for more than 1 season this summer...

schumway2 12-03-2010 04:29 PM

Same thing Marinaro reported few days ago.

DogsFan* 12-03-2010 04:29 PM

So, what does Markov get for us for next year? I know he wants to remain a hab.

Captain Smurf 12-03-2010 04:30 PM

Could see it coming a mile away, still disappointing. Best wishes to Markov and hope for a successful rehab!

Money is anyone's guess, but I'd imagine it'll be a one year deal.

Probably a 1 year extension of the same salary he earned this year. I just don't see how they could sign him to a 5 year deal or something.

cedouimet 12-03-2010 04:31 PM

Well i'd give him a 5 years deal....but for 2M$....

WHatever he wants moneywise, but only one year. We'll see after...and go for kaberle :P

I think he will resign and the Habs have said that they would give him an offer. I could be wrong, but they all met today, doctors, PG, Markov and is agent to edcide on the best thing to do for him, so maybe PG told him that they still want to keep him long term, so do what's best to heal properly. Maybe I'm just crazy?

Habs 1909 12-03-2010 04:32 PM

Just got the TSN text confirming this:

"Montreal Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov to undergo meniscus and ACL surgery and will miss remainder of season"

Ice Poutine 12-03-2010 04:35 PM

OMFG!!! What a surprise!!

jamz 12-03-2010 04:38 PM

Atleast now the HAbs have the money available to get that 2nd line LW

Zeroknowledge* 12-03-2010 04:42 PM

how much cap space does this bring in exactly?

vik352 12-03-2010 04:43 PM

Any chance he could comeback during the playoffs?

CanadienErrant* 12-03-2010 04:45 PM

Habs must sign him despite all that. It doesn't really matter for how long and how much money. If he doesn't come back, Insurances will pay and his salary won't count in the cap space.

m00ks 12-03-2010 04:45 PM

It's a big gamble to resign him but not resigning him is a gamble just as big. I think an offer has to be made, if only to prevent the possibility of him making a full recovery and essentially loosing a player of his caliber for nothing.

Rutabaga 12-03-2010 04:47 PM

I hope that this Carolina game wasnt his last one as a Hab.
It will be a mistake.
The number of options available as UFA is not big enough to think about a life without him.

sheed36 12-03-2010 04:48 PM

Should be interesting how the Habs deal with contract talks with Markov after him missing pretty much the entire season.. How much money? How many Years?

With his injury woes of late I really can't see him getting a raise so what would be fair value for both the Habs and Markov for him to return?

Best case IMO is to sign him for 1 year to see if he can stay healthy and still play at a high level and then sign him for a longer term if he does both.. Probably wishful thinking but risking a long term big money contract on Markov right now is a huge risk for the Habs..

Whakahere 12-03-2010 04:48 PM

Even tho I am a pens fan I would have to say this sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing what your defense would have looked like later in the season with Markov and Subban jellying.

I hope Subban learn from his scratching and plays better. I would love the pens to have a playoff match with you guys. This time we will need to beat Price. :D

Frozenice 12-03-2010 04:49 PM

I hope he has a successful surgery, gets healthy and the Habs sign him long term.

I don't have a problem taking a risk on signing him, providing the surgery was a success. He probably won't be the guy he was before but he should still be plenty good enough.

Ceux de Montreal 12-03-2010 04:50 PM

And as of playoff?

twenty7 12-03-2010 04:51 PM

oh boi!!! next game against the hurricanes I feel like this won't be pretty!!!
