Major Update on the Stars.

So before I begin I just wanted to take the time and tell people a little bit about the situation I have going for me in Austin.

I have season tickets for the Texas Stars and I get the chance to sit with very major parts of the Stars organization on a regular basis. People like Ludwig, Les Jackson and even Brett Hull every now and then, hell even a lot of the other teams pro scouts. I am By NO means claiming to be a journalist or trying to start rumors, this is simply some information that I felt like sharing with you guys since I enjoy reading these forums on a daily basis.

To get started... I was chatting with a very prominent individual tonight who just so happen to sit right next to me for no apparent reason with his wife. I casually made chat with him and this started asking him big questions that all of us have for Niewendyke or even the players.

I asked about the current status of the sale of the team as well as this persons take on the players currently suited up for us.

To start off, the team has a new group of investors trying to buy it, this includes 5 individuals one of whom is a very close friend of the guy I was talking to, who's also an ex player. He made mention that Fox Sports had attended a meeting with the investors and might possibly be joining in as well for a minor share.

Timeline I'm told by this ex player is believed to be exactly one to two months for the team to sell.

I asked about the Richards contract and was told Brad is looking for 7 years. No crazy numbers like 8mil a season though, Richards just want's to have his future set out in stone and really enjoys playing for Dallas.

Apparently not a whole lot of people other than the Stars scouts are happy with this past draft. In fact the guy I was peaking to expressed the same frustration that we all had when the team chose Cambell. He said everybody wanted Fowler but that Joe was stuck on what his scouts were saying.

Matt Niskanen, Jeff Woywitka, and Skrastins will NOT be apart of the team come next season if everything goes according to plan. He expressed the need for players like Shea Weber, Seabrook, and Christain Ehrhoff.

I asked about what he thought of Richard Bachman who if you don't know yet is having an AMAZING season with Texas, very calm just like Carey Price. Not saying he'll be as good but definitely the same demeanor. This ex player felt Bachman will easily be in Dallas before Cambell would be in the AHL.

On the side I asked what he thought about Philip Lasen and Fabian Brunnstrom. He said that everybody is extremely happy with Larsen and they want to take their time and develop him the correct way UNLIKE Matt Niskanen who most people seem to be frustrated with. Brunnstrom he said, has had every chance in the world but that he neds to be in the top 6, where this is absolutely no room for him.

Green jerseys are apart of this new groups plans.

Now I say this again, I'm not a reporter and I don't want to be compared to somebody like Eklund for rumors, I'm just saying I was very privileged to have been lucky enough to sit next to this guy during the game tonight. He apparently plays a very big part in board meetings now and has been in every step of the sales process so far. Believe me or not I just felt like sharing with everybody since I thought you all might enjoy the info.

Dis **** is pretty crazy, Cin.

Note: Good crazy.

I'll take Brad Richards for 7 years at 5 million dollars, Alex.

I don't expect Skrastins to be back, nor did I expect Woywitka to be retained. But I will say Skrastins has had a good year so far. This means Daley is staying. Crap. Glad everyone has such high praise for Campbell. :sarcasm:

So he thinks Bachman will win a backup job in Dallas in two years? Coolio.

I also want to know who this mystery person is. One of OUR ex-players?

Cin 12-04-2010 11:02 PM

He kind of had a ****** look on his face when I asked if Daley would be staying so there's hope.

txomisc 12-04-2010 11:29 PM

Sounds like this former player is a bit of a pipe dreamer like many of us. Ok maybe erhoff could be nabbed if we do have new owners and he hits ufa, but seabrook and weber are unavailable and there are no players on their level who will be.

vofty 12-04-2010 11:39 PM

I was super excited when I first read it. I waited to reply and some of my enthusiasm has tapered a bit. 1-2 months for the sale of the team? As much as I really and truly want to believe this I'm at the point where I will believe it when I see it. If a sale was looking to be that close why would the lenders be looking to hire an interm president when the new owner would come in and put their own person in place in a few months anyway? I hate to be the debbie downer but it looks like I am. The whole post sounds very encouraging though.

I would not take those comments as a knock on cambpell but as praise for Bachman. He has played well and won at every level. Hell if Bachman doesn't win the backup job within a couple years we might as well forget about him because Beskorawny is no slouch either.

Thanks Cin, I appreciate your perspective from CP.

No problem man

MB94 12-05-2010 12:03 AM

Very interesting post, everything you said caught my attention. I am really hopping this is all true!

Brand New Stars 12-05-2010 12:11 AM

Good to know Richards isn't a greedy little *****. Just wants security.

MetalGodAOD* 12-05-2010 12:58 AM

Sounds a bit too good to be true, I'm sure most of this stuff is just "ideal." It's good to hear about Richards and the D though, though I imagine things won't go the way they want completely, so some of our current will be retained.

This was pretty much my reaction to this thread
hope its true!!

Interesting stuff. My fingers are crossed that the Niskanen being gone and the Richards thing is true and we can actually get him signed.

Very weird that the Stars games both ended 4-3 in OT, though I was disappointed Texas lost. Though since it was my first game down here, and it was on the glass, I had a good time (they had me sold with the free scarf, lol).

Cin 12-05-2010 02:15 AM

Hahaha I had to have a scarf too. Blankets from last night were good as well.

Well I worked last night, otherwise I would've been seeing TSO then instead of the Stars tonight.

Captain Awesome 12-05-2010 03:50 AM

Not surprised by Richards wanting 7 years, takes him until he's about that age where he can start thinking about retirement.

Honestly, I can't really blame Joe for choosing the word of his scouts over the word of some guys on the board, despite that we'll all undoubtedly agree that taking Fowler would have been the best thing to happen to this franchise in a while.

All of it definitely has a feeling of 'best case scenario' about it, but I'm sure we wouldn't complain if all of it panned out more or less. Too bad Daley isn't part of that list of d-men that we won't ever have to see in a Stars uni again, but that is a lot of turnover. I suppose that means we'd be bringing in two UFAs at the very least.

munkeyman70 12-05-2010 10:40 AM

No offense meant....but I take this with about a pound of salt, due to the fact you misspelled the GMs name and our top prospects name...may just be me, but if you were that close to the team you think you would know how to spell both of these correctly.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong tho.

I do too, but for different reasons. Should we disregard your comments since you don't know how to properly punctuate or form a sentence? How can you know what you're writing about when you can't figure out the proper use of an ellipses? Those are really petty reasons to ignore someone's point, much less attack them for it.

Nullus Reverentia 12-05-2010 12:23 PM

Despite some negative things there that was amazing. So glad to see some of those things. I hope Dallas gives Richards that contract, regardless of concerns in the future, Dallas needs to keep him.

Sorry about that, pretty sure most of the people here know I post from my iPhone. Maybe you should grow up a little bit though, buddy.

So let me get this straight, you don't believe that because he didn't spell our GM's name right (I don't blame him it's fricken hard :P) and our top prospect name right?

:help:

Cin 12-05-2010 03:41 PM

Pretty sure I spelled Larsen right... I see him play at least 4 times a week.

Brand New Stars 12-05-2010 04:47 PM

Our GM's name is freaking really hard to spell so that shouldn't even be a reason why you don't believe the stuff he's said.

Kritter471 12-05-2010 05:10 PM

Nieuwendyk has a lot of vowels but really isn't all that difficult to spell. Not enough double letters to be hard, and it's really spelled like it sounds with the exception of the ending (which is just a Dutch variation of "like it sounds").

I'm verrry suspicious of all this in terms of actual impact on the team. Not that I don't believe the conversation happened, but it's one person's opinion/speculation (and an unnamed one person at that), and by the person's own words, Nieuwendyk is one to make his own decisions and not necessarily listen to this guy about the ideal choices for the franchise.

Besides that, all the things are dependent upon ideal scenarios and, in some cases, replacement parts being available. Signing a top d-man is a wonderful idea, but that requires money and the right fit guy being on the market and in your price range (and even then it can blow up in your face). Likewise, dumping defensemen requires NHL-level replacement parts. Larsen will likely be ready once he puts on muscle, but Fortunas is nothing special and I don't believe there's a whole lot of D depth.

The only thing I put a little credence is the sale rumor, but even then, that's a "believe it when I see it." We've heard sale rumors from people willing to attach their names to the stories that never came to fruition. I like the optimism but am not going to get my hopes up.
