Proposed Nicknames

From the LCB line through the Legion of Doom... and beyond, the Flyers have some clever nicknames for their productive and longstanding lines. Notable lines from other teams have also had the... GAG Line arguably the most remembered.

Of late the Flyers coaches have given the fans and Media little chance to develop nicknames as the lines change at the drop of a hat... volatility in team makeup also hampers this.

With the signing of Cliff Lee and all the marvelous nicknames for the Phillies rotation -- Phour Aces, Phantastic Phour, etc. -- it dawned on me that it may be time for Briere's line to establish one also... Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell and Ville Leino... there has to be a way to take the first letters of either the first or last names to create a catchy name... Or maybe a play on their style, size, personality, etc.

Or maybe their personal nicknames mixed in. For example; using Hartnell's Bird Dog to come up with the BVD Line... Lame I know. haha

Personally I have no good offering... and that is where all you clever people come into play... Please name Briere's line. And while you are here, how about some of the other possible Flyers lines... if you can think of any semi-set ones that is. ;)

Richard's Line
Carter's Line
Briere's Line
Betts/Fourth Line

Not going with a nickname, but they really have been the most consistent line, and probably the best chemistry on the team. Alot of people here (including myself) questioned if their playoff magic would continue, and to a degree it has.

Nodl (12) - Richards (30) - Giroux (29)
Leino (23) - Briere (24) - Hartnell (22)
JVR (13) - Carter (24) - Zherdev (11)
Carcillo (2) - Betts (9) - Powe (10)

And its been the only line really kept together due to their consistency with all 3 players (as in working with eachother). You dont really hear people ***** about Briere anymore, and how Hartnell is a dumass.

What about when Giroux centers a line and Carter plays wing? Didn't think of that did you, huh?... That blows your suggestion all to Hell. HA! :sarcasm:

True... but Hartnell still falls an awful lot. ;)

Oh I agree 100%. All the f'ing time. But you just get used to it lol. The guy is in his late 20s. He isnt going to change his skating anytime soon. I feel like he does bring his all when he plays though. I was never a Hartnell hater (not lover either), but I always felt, even during all those ****** penalties, the guy would get pissed at himself and just keep working hard.

I call the Leino-Briere-Hartnell line the ***** line. Just sayin.

Some love for the Rat Patrol of Linseman, Holmgren and Propp.

Crazy Eights was a good one, too.

I don't like how they just call it the Briere line. I liked the idea that some people here came up with for a photoshop of a dwarf, an elf, and a hobbit.

That could work. Someone should photoshop a picture of Frodo, Legolas and Gimli with their faces.

The LOTR line? Or just the Fellowship Line.

Haha... I was just kidding... I love Hartsy, myself. I'll admit that he was off earlier last season, and have to feel that the off ice personal problems have to had taken its toll on his play. Once the postseason got rolling and the money was on the line, he focused all his talents and got it back together... It is so draining when you have the kind of troubles he had -- as I can only imagine his circumstances without clear facts -- His falling, IMO, is a direct result of his style of play and his balls out, Hell bent play. I admit he is a little bone headed at times; but aren't we all? We are human... Having had a little limited contact with him I can easily see his personality as a great thing for a team and in the Room... I don't worry about Bird Dog... and I want him on my side going into war.

tuckrr 12-15-2010 05:06 PM

i call them the "payoff line" coming from the fact that they were the "playoff line" last year...just dropped the 'L' this year.

King Forsberg 12-15-2010 06:13 PM

The Ville Leino spinorama pass to Briere while Hartnell is falling on his ass line?

Spongolium* 12-15-2010 06:38 PM

True... but somebody has to spread the word about them... and this is the thread to do just that. Give one birth, and introduce it so everybody can welcome it into the (hockey)World. :D

LEIFey 12-15-2010 10:19 PM

You can't really propose nicknames. They just have to happen. But I do like Horizontnell considering how often the guy falls down.
