From Wiki;

Quote:

In 1984 Team Canada began participating and has since won the Cup eleven times. Team Canada is predominantly made up of Canadians playing in Europe, as well as American Hockey League prospects. Notable free agents (like veteran goaltender Curtis Joseph) or coaches without an NHL contract have also used the Spengler Cup to keep their name around.
Canada have won the tournament 11 times since 1984 with the last coming in 2007.

Mark Bell scores! 2-0 Canada.

Beauty pass by Metropolit.

 "I was watching #15 (Metropolit) behind the net and I started thinking; Hands! Hands! Hands!"

One Man Rock Band 12-30-2010 02:29 PM

Vigier!

3-0 Canada.

Haha that was a sweet pass by Metro. Miss him from our line up this year

Canada wins 4-0 and moves onto the Championship game tomorrow.

Mark Bell is a guy I saw as a possible reclamation project...scored 25 at 25 years of age and wasn't afraid to mix it up...but his game has gone to the crapper since the DUI. In 06-07 and 07-08 he played 106 games and went 15-16-31 and hasn't put up good numbers AHL or Swiss A league...

I'm not familiar with the Swiss A league but do top players usually put up ppg numbers because 13 goals and 27 points in 39 games and 13g and 21p in 36 games doesn't sound that bad.

Habs 4 Life 12-30-2010 03:58 PM

Wow I remember Eric Landry, #78 played 2 games under Therrien back in 2001-02

Good luck to Canada, hope they can win it all, nice to see Metro doing well:handclap:

I still dont get how people get picked
i think it is just non NHL playing players...
and I assume the guys in the AHL must have permission from their NHL teams (ie: Deslaurier)

You got it pretty good for someone who doesn't get it.

Yep, the tournament is in Europe, so it's generally almost all Canadians playing abroad (Metropolit is a great example; same case with most of the roster).

Then they add a couple of AHL'ers whose clubs loan them out. Example, Justin Pogge played for Canada when he was still consider a legit prospect for the Leafs. Or, Deslauriers this year.

Just noticed this game is live tomorrow morning at 6am! Guess I won't mind the little one waking me up tomorrow:laugh:

Yeah, I put the local time (in Davos) .. It's edited now.

There's 3 Ex-Habs on the team; Eric Landry (2000-2002, 53 GP, 12 PTS), Yannick Lehoux (2008-2009, AHL only, 80 GP, 60 PTS), and Glen Metropolit (2009-2010, 90 GP, 32 PTS).

Metropolit leads the Ex-Habs scoring in the tournament with 5 PTS, Lehoux has 3 PTS, and Landry has 1 goal.

One Man Rock Band 12-31-2010 05:01 AM

Game on!!

Deslauriers in net for a 6th straight game in 6 straight days. :amazed:

SKA St. Petersburg has a ridiculous team; Alexei Yashin, Johan Fransson, Denis Grebeshkov, Vitaly Vishnevskiy, Maxim Afinogenov, Evgeny Artyukhin, Maxim Sushinskiy, Mattias Weinhandl, and Petr Cajanek.

One Man Rock Band 12-31-2010 05:09 AM

I think Canada is missing both their captain Serge Aubin (back spasms) and Mark Bell (leg, I believe). Ugh.

One Man Rock Band 12-31-2010 05:21 AM

1-0 SKA right now.. Canada still on the PP..

Metropolit cost us the first goal with a horrid pass in the defensive zone.

One Man Rock Band 12-31-2010 06:01 AM

DUPONT BABY!!!

What a pass by Pelletier. Thing of beauty.
