I meant to post the other day that Minnesota had signed Ortmeyer to a amateur try-out. Obviously they liked what they saw and signed him to a full deal, hence the waivers.

J.D. Watt must be headed overseas if he's being waived like Wyatt Smith was last week.

All things considered, Ortmeyer was decent last year on the Sharks. Here's to hoping he finds a fit in the NHL.

Update from Russo on Ortmeyer, assuming he clears waivers, he's depth for the Wild. He'll be in Houston for to start he says.

I'm not sure about what the rules are in the CBA about Watt being waived... but someone on another board said that he can be waived for an unconditional release from his contract... anyone know how accurate this is?... there was also a rumor going around on CP that Watt had asked to be traded from the Heat

There is instances when you can get out of a contract and you are waived. I think it's when both sides decide that they want to void the contract.

Good luck to Jed. Always liked his energy and grit.

well if he has asked to be moved like rumored then this could very well be the case

Watt's contract was terminated yesterday, he is a UFA. Wonder what the backstory is to that!

He requested a trade, so the Flames said "peace out".

Ortmeyer always gets waived in ESHM 2007

Average skating, great penalty killer.

Great 3rd or 4th line energy guy. Will pot maybe 5-10 goals in a year. Solid depth.

He might put in 5-10 in a highly offensive system like SJ, but in Nashville we never saw anything close to that kind of production.

He's a super hardworker, great PK guy, and the ladies love his boyish good looks, but the dude has hands of stone and zero offensive instincts.

WTFMAN99 01-06-2011 11:09 AM

I actually wouldn't of minded Jed for pking on the Leafs but I guess Sjostrom is a little similar.

straka91* 01-06-2011 01:04 PM

I really hope Jed finds a job in the NHL. All heart and plays the grinding game well. And also doesn't take any stupid penalties while doing it.

aznkukuboi 01-06-2011 01:06 PM

I really liked Ortmeyer when he was paired with Nichol. He gave the line energy and was a good PK'er

Just a guess he probably realized that he is going to have a hard time to make the Calgary Flames lineup and felt if he goes to another organization he may have a better shot at making the NHL.
