So....any rumors of any of those prospect goalies coming over to North America this summer?
Which ones would have the best chance (in due time) of performing well in the NHL?

I would say Karri Rämö but he will get bigger money playing KHL...

Niko Hovinen has been playing well for Pelicans and is showing some promise. Probably not ready for North America yet, but if he continues to develop, who knows. At least he has one of the best goalie coaches in Finland.

Herratopi 01-26-2011 03:39 PM

Harri Säteri alone will keep stand (Tampere Tappara).
The same can be said about Atte Engren (Turku TPS).
Teemu Lassila (Hämeenlinna HPK) and Iiro Tarkki (Espoo Blues) have for many years been playing a game of excellence.
Eero Kilpeläinen (Pori Ässät) has increased this year, Finnish ice hockey league's top of the head
goalie (albeit a few years would require grinding AHL).
Niko Hovinen (Lahti Pelicans) shines every day I find goals in the league's best goalkeeper at the moment.

Probably many of them going to Russia.

Edit. This season stats

GP/GAA /Sv%
41/2,01/93,71/Kilpeläinen, Eero/Ässät
41/1,91/92,65/Tarkki, Iiro/ Blues
41/2,44/92,51/Lassila, Teemu/HPK
35/2,62/92,17/Hovinen, Niko/Pelicans
37/2,91/91,69/Engren, Atte/TPS
26/2,87/91,28/Säteri, Harri/Tappara

How many starts and wins do you think backstrom will get this season?

55-60 starts and hopefully as many wins as possible. He's quite clearly our no. 1 at the moment.

I Picked him in my draft, i wasn't to sure of him. I hope wild win every game vs. the eastern teams :D

Riku Helenius

Was mildly surprised that Tampa Bay retained his rights last spring. Is he back on track to justify being a first-round pick a few years ago?

Season has just begun so hard to say for sure, but I don’t think much has changed in his game. It’s a big challenge for him to surpass Joni Myllykoski in the pecking order of JYP goalies.

Something like two thirds of goalies picked in the first round will never be starting goalies in the NHL, so Helenius isn’t the only one who hasn’t lived up to his presumed potential.

Damn. Only seven in the N >_<

Worth noting that Petri Koivisto has also had an incredibly strong start for the season.

Things are getting interesting. Harding's one of the hottest right now. Let's see if Yeo can keep them both warm. Maybe goalie tandem kind of a thing? But 40-50 maybe? And I hope 30+ wins of course ;)

But let's see. Harding has got a history of injuries behind. This is interesting season for Minnesota. Almost hope they could share the load and keep both goalies warm if not hot..

How I see it, Backs needs also somebody to kick his butt and keep him awake. On the other hand, giving him some rest. Because Backstrom has IMO occasionally seem quite tired a couple of last seasons .

I joined HFboards (my last account) just to follow him so let's hope he makes it all the way to the NHL as a starter xD

A boy can dream.

Emppu 01-26-2012 11:16 AM

Antero Niittymäki clears waivers. Can you see him coming back to Europe this year? KHL, SM-Liiga or Elitserien??

I can't see him playing in Worcester (AHL)

LOFIN 01-26-2012 02:12 PM

Don't know about this year, but there have been strong rumours that Niittymäki would return to TPS in SM-liiga next season...

Juzmo 03-28-2012 01:13 AM

Jussi Rynnäs made his debut in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs and stopped all 10 shots in his 39:23 of icetime.

From the Finnish third division to the NHL in three years. :handclap:
