Giroux the only Flyers Allstar

Apparently, the NHL thinks that one of the best teams in the NHL, ahem us, only have one Allstar caliber player:

Kambo 01-11-2011 11:02 AM

I'm sorry but that is a ****ing disgrace. I went over that list 3 or 4 times thinking there was no way Giroux was the only Flyer on there.

Mgkibbles 01-11-2011 11:03 AM

Depth > Star power.

Roo Mad Bro 01-11-2011 11:03 AM

Meh, more rest for the players.

Garbage Goal 01-11-2011 11:04 AM

Don't really care how many we get into the ASG. Less people that make it the more players that get rest. More people that make it, the more people on our team that get to have the ASG added to their resume. Win-win as far as I'm concerned.

I definitely think Briere deserved to be our one representative a hell of a lot more then anyone else though.

GKJ 01-11-2011 11:05 AM

Pathetic.

Yep.

What surprises me is that there are no Sabres and Islanders. So much for full league representation. Cause, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the rookies play in the actual all star game.

Agreed but how does the NHL justify their choices?

How can say, a top 10 goal scorer on one of the best teams, not make it?

Although Pronger is hurt, how many D-men are better than Timonen?

Campbell and Bettman running the NHL = Joe Buck and Troy Aikman announcing Giants games

Oh contraire...apparently ALL teams will be REPRESENTED through the Allstar weekend (as clarified by Ken Danico last night on Versus)...meaning if you don't make the actual game, your rookies will participate on Satuday (or whatever day it is)

ilovetheflyers8 01-11-2011 11:09 AM

I like how they phrased this

Nicklas Lidstrom will be the graybeard in Raleigh even if he doesn't look a day over 30. Lidstrom, 40, is making his 11th All-Star Game appearance. He was selected to play in Montreal two years ago, but couldn't.
He and Datsyuk chose not to come and got suspended for it.

lol. Didn't even notice that. Shows you that the players themselves care for the ASG about as much as the hardcore fans do.

Hollywood Couturier 01-11-2011 11:14 AM

Oh well. Doesn't really bother me one way or another.

Learn to CTRL+F :sarcasm:

But yeah, it is pretty retarded. The only thing I'm more surprised about is that neither Datsyuk nor Zetterberg made it, and the Red Wings also only have one All-Star in Lidstrom.

CanadianFlyer88 01-11-2011 11:18 AM

Two Hawks were voted in... and two more were added. Honour the champs, I guess.

I'd rather a young guy like Giroux be the only Flyer. Good experience for him and well deserved time off for everyone else.

Edit: Every team is represented in some way. The Sabres, Isles, Panthers and Coyotes don't have anyone in the main game, but all have rookies in the skills competition.

Miss Mess 01-11-2011 11:18 AM

Briere got screwed. Oh well!

chimrichalds18 01-11-2011 11:18 AM

I would bet that the Flyers who were being considered talked it over and decided that Giroux should be their representative. Timonen wants rest, Richards doesn’t seem like he cares (not in a bad way), Carter probably feels the same, Pronger needs to recover, and Briere’s been there (they all have). They don’t really strike me as a group of guys who really give a **** about being in the all-star game, and they probably figure that they’d want a young guy who hasn’t been there (Giroux) to get a shot.

All that being said, it’s ridiculous – for reasons that have been pointed out – that the Flyers have only 1 representative.

Terence Peterman 01-11-2011 11:19 AM

Whatever.

KimiFerrari 01-11-2011 11:24 AM

Awesome! Take the rest and lets hope some other "Allstars" pull their groins!

Cmoneyflyguy 01-11-2011 11:27 AM

briere out is a joke

kicksave27 01-11-2011 11:27 AM

It's basically going to be the Giroux pull out all the tricks in the bag and undress offensive Dmen show. Should be fun.

Jules801 01-11-2011 11:27 AM

I don't really care.

I am looking forward to seeing Roo in the shootout competition...

GKJ 01-11-2011 11:29 AM

This would be less annoying if every team was at least represented

sobrien 01-11-2011 11:32 AM

Don't care. More rest for our first place team, who are picking up games in hand again.

The NHL is loaded with talent. To make the all-star game "fair" and still have representation from every team, they would have to make 30+ man all-star rosters...and benches aren't usually that big.

They had brought it back too before this year.
