Cgy-Atl

Seeing how if the Flames do Rebuild they will trade their star players that would return the most value while they still have some....

Atl-
Iginla 7m
Regher 4.02m
Prospect or 3rd rnd 2012

Cgy-
Little 2.2m
Enstrom 3.75m
Klingberg .900
Bergfors .900

I think Atl needs someone like Iginla with that skill to start selling ticekts.

Thoughts?

Mark Stuart* 01-18-2011 01:21 AM

I'd say Enstrom is a nonstarter from Atlanta's POV.

Yep. Enstrom going no where. Even for Iginla

Lunatik* 01-18-2011 02:39 AM

I'm not interested in moving Iginla for any package around a defenseman... its the one position we don't have to worry about... we need forward prospects

JeffMangum 01-18-2011 02:44 AM

Wow. This is awful. Enstrom is untouchable. Adding Little, Klingberg, and Bergfors too?!?! Ugh.

btn 01-18-2011 05:43 AM

So the Thrashers trade their #1D, two top six forwards, and their best F prospect....for a top six forward and a downgrade from Enstrom at D.

This trade would put Atlanta in the draft lottery and kill their attendance.

Rhodes 81 01-18-2011 06:33 AM

oh my god...

little is our 2nd best forward after peverley. enstrom is a norris candidate d-man, bergfors is our most offensively gifted forward and he's gotten out of the coaches' doghouse, and klingberg is one of our best prospects, and not one of them is over 25...we trade that for a very good but still over the hill forward and a downgrade at d

i'm not going to even ask if you were drunk when you posted this because the answer is obvious.

DungeonK 01-18-2011 06:44 AM

An all-star defenseman, 30 goal forward, our best prospect and a 20 goal RFA for an old Iggy and Regehr?

That'd be a GREAT idea.

Model T 01-18-2011 07:04 AM

In fairness to Iginla, he'd lead Atlanta in points with fewer games played.

The problem is that Enstrom is only a couple points back and is a defenseman, so there's no way Atlanta would move him.

What would ATL fans think about Iginla <-> Little and Klingberg? I'm not sure if I would do that from a Flames perspective, I am just curious. Does the salary difference make it impossible for Atlanta? How to Thrashers fans see the value?

For reference:

Rank Name Team Pos GP G A P
18 Jarome Iginla CGY R 46 19 23 42
110 Bryan Little ATL C 42 13 14 27

2.74 goals per game for Calgary at the moment, 3.04 goals per game for Atlanta, so I'd say Iginla is fairly clearly working with less. Little is 10 years younger. I don't expect Iginla to decline by the end of this contract. If you do, even though his conditioning is excellent and he doesn't seem to be declining noticeably when factoring in the quality of the team (since he tends to be a guy who feeds off linemates), and this significantly influences his value in your mind, please say so and explain.

Magnus Fulgur 01-18-2011 07:28 AM

Little has excellent chemistry with Kane, so you're also gutting the effectiveness of that line. I wouldn't play Iggy with Kane - that's too many cooks spoiling the broth and who knows if they'd really have chemistry despite Kane idolizing Iginla.

The only question mark in Atl's top six is Stewart, but he is hugely popular with his teammates. Knocking him out to bring in Iginla would upset the apple cart. Also, this year is about establishing Ladd as the captain (and getting him resigned) bringing in a guy with as much respect and stature as Jarome could actually hurt the team more than help it.

I used to want to get Iginla, but what Atlanta needs is just a depth defenseman to replace Bogosian (who probably won't play too much right now) and TWO third line guys with scoring touch to replace Slater (concussion) and Modin (injury du jour).

Atl-
Iginla 7m
Regher 4.02m
Prospect or 3rd rnd 2012

Cgy-
Bogosian 3.3m
Bergfors .900
Machacek .858

I like this better.

Flames Fanatic 01-18-2011 08:37 AM

Ugh. Not a single good trade offer in this thread. For either teams.

AtlantaWhaler 01-18-2011 09:00 AM

In no way would this make Atlanta better.

BurnEmUp 01-18-2011 09:18 AM

I doubt the Thrashers would give up on Bogosian, despite his struggles this year....but they do have some decent young defenseman to build around even if they did decide to move him, in Enstrom (26), Byfuglien (25) and Oduya (29).

I also doubt they are looking to move Bergfors with the way he's been playing since being a healthy scratch and supposedly being available.

But what the heck.....

A solid veteran shut-down D, a solid, young, pass first center (who is strong in the face-off dot) and a gritty, penalty killing winger with offensive abilities for a couple of young and potential future stars?

D - Robyn Regehr (30) (4,020,000 - Two more years left)
C - Matt Stajan (27) (3,500,000 - Three more yeras left)
W - Curtis Glencross (28) (1,200,000 - UFA)

for

Zach Bogosian (20) (3,375,000 - RFA)
Niclas Bergfors (23) (900,000 - RFA)

Ladd - Peverley - Little
Kane - Stajan - Antropov
Glencross - Burmistrov - Stewart
Boulton - Thorburn - Machacek

Oduya - Byfuglien
Regehr - Enstrom
Hainsey - Sopel

Doesn't do anything for us. Also, Little's a center this year.

Seems like a lot of salary for Atlanta to take on.

Maybe Regehr, Glenncross, prospect/pick for Bogosian

Yeah, I know Little has been at center this year, but I thought he was performing better as a winger in the past? ....so I put Stajan as center and moved Little back to first line RW.

Bogosian and Hainsey are not playing well this year, so at the moment your top 4 defense is missing a key piece, adding Regehr solidifies that......so "does nothing" isn't an accurate assessment.

Still, I understand why a Thrasher fan wouldn't want to do this deal. I probably wouldn't want to jump the gun and move two young up and comers like Bogosian and Bergfors, even if it did make my team better for the time being.

ComixZone 01-18-2011 10:17 AM

not going to comment on the proposed trades, but as a Flames fan I look at Atlanta and can't help but be excited for Thrasher fans. Ladd/Byfuglien are far and away two of the top moves last summer. I hope they get on a roll and do some damage in the playoffs.

If this deal went down today, they would only take on about $2.5 million in actual salary.

Next year they'd have about $25 million of cap space with 15 players signed, and Ladd, Byfuglien, Stewart and Machacek as the key players to extend (all RFA's).

Reason I didnt put Bogosian in there is because I thought he had more value then Enstrom? I'm I wrong?
How about this
Cgy:
Little
Bergfors
Klingberg

Atl:
Iginla
Sarich

Yes, you're wrong. Enstrom is on pace for 70 points....Bogosian was a healthy scratch last night....so right now now Enstrom >>>> Bogosian. Zach is only 20 though, and has tremendous upside.

Would it be possible to get Little out of Atlanta without Iginla or 1st rnd pick this year ;) ?

No. Little is slowly regaining his 30-goal form, is a good PK-er, and our plus-minus leader.

Not likely. He's a 20-30 goal, 50 or so point 23 year old who signed for three years at less than $3 million....plus when his deal is finally done, he'll still be restricted.
