Rangers Prospect Poll: #16

Despite an excellent season where he scored 41 points in 29 games and had a very good WJC, Ryan Bourque dropped one spot from our previous rankings. I think that's more a testament of how good our prospects are than a reflection of any disappointment with his performance. I have hopes for him being another Ryan Callahan.

The vote to add a new name to the vote was:

1. G Cam Talbot: 11
2. LW Justin Soryal: 2
3. C Chad Kolarik: 2
4. LW Jason Wilson: 1
5. D Jyri Niemi: 1
6. G Scott Stajcer: 1

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round. Also would be good to include a discussion/argument on why you voted for a particular prospect.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. C Derek Stepan
2. LW Chris Kreider
3. RW Mats Zuccarrello-Aasen
4. D Michael Sauer
5. D Dylan McIlrath
6. D Ryan McDonagh
7. LW Evgeny Grachev
8. RW Christian Thomas
9. LW Carl Hagelin
10. C Ethan Werek

SECOND TIER PROSPECTS

11. D Pavel Valentenko
12. LW Roman Horak
13. RW Jesper Fasth
14. D Tomas Kundratek
15. LW Ryan Bourque

"He's capable of scoring and capable of making a play, but he's also very capable of making sure the other team does not score. He's out there the last two minutes of the game if you are down a goal or if you're up a goal."

I'm torn between Weise and Yogan. But because of the very big questions it's Weise. However I think Yogan could be a big riser once he can play again.

Add Kolarik I guess, really tearing up the A

Mint Berry Crunch 01-19-2011 01:16 PM

Weise, add Wilson.

Wraparounds 01-19-2011 01:18 PM

Weise, add Kolarik.

Beacon 01-19-2011 01:19 PM

Gotta go with Weise. He's in the NHL and we are not even in the top-15 now. You can't tell me that we have more than 16 prospects who'll even sniff MSG ice. (If we do, we will win the Cup so many times, we'll get tired of it.)

Add Soryal. He'll be a solid goon.

Fitzy 01-19-2011 01:28 PM

Easy. Weise add Kolarik.

After #16 we're really getting into 10% and lower guys, with the possible exception of the goaltenders.

Edit; scratch that last, im a Yogan fan even with his injury.

vipernsx 01-19-2011 01:37 PM

Pashnin add Niemi

free0717 01-19-2011 01:42 PM

Pashnin add Wilson

n8 01-19-2011 01:45 PM

went with Weise, add Kolarik if he is eligible.
Yogan's injuries are a ??? for me
Pashnin is promising I suppose but also a ??? what's up with the 0 points in 33 games?

Bardof425* 01-19-2011 01:48 PM

Ocho Cinco, add Kolarik

Honestly I never understood the Pashnin "hype". He had one solid prospect camp, but that's about it. True he is playing in the KHL (but barely) but he doesn't seem to stand out, has average to below average size (5.11) and is nearly 22 years old. Of course you can't expect much from the remaining prospects on this list, but I don't see much potential in Pashnin.

Weise. Kolarik.

NYR Viper 01-19-2011 02:24 PM

Weise add McNaught

Yeah, I went there. The kid has a talent that is very easy to transition to the pros. He beats the **** out of people.

Ail 01-19-2011 02:37 PM

Weise, add Kolarik.

BrooklynRangersFan 01-19-2011 03:14 PM

Yogan. This time last year he still had a shot at going in the first round.

Granted, he subsequently continued a lackluster draft year and fell to the fourth (and then got injured), but that points to sufficient potential that I'll still rank him above the guys who top out at third liners if they hit their absolute ceiling - no matter if they've already gotten some time on the big club.

Add Stajcer. He had a great run on a terrible team early in the year.

bmoak 01-19-2011 04:19 PM

Weise. Add Stacjer.

nyr2k2 01-19-2011 04:32 PM

Weise, add Wilson.

Wilson is actually a pretty similar player to Weise. A bit less in terms of pure skill, more apt with his fists. I think he'll be a solid pro.

Alien Valuating 01-19-2011 05:41 PM

weise, add stajcer.

this is crazy, 16 prospects in and i feel like just now we're getting to a level where the prospects are questionable. all the above guys have at least a decent shot at making some noise in the nhl.

Jxmarts 01-19-2011 05:49 PM

Yogan... power-forward/top-6 upside is still there despite missing season with injuries.

Add Wilson because he has just enough skill to be more than a goon... Prust-like upside.

Prusted 01-19-2011 08:46 PM

add kolarik

Net Front Presence 01-19-2011 10:36 PM

Yogan, add Kolarik.

The only reason he's getting hype is that people don't understand the KHL draft.

He was drafted #1 overall. However, their entry draft is like our waiver draft.

The junior system is tied to the KHL clubs. Each club gets to keep their top prospects, but have to expose some of their "expendable" prospects.

He was drafted #1 overall among these prospects that even KHL teams see as expendable.

He's the Drury of the KHL. Ted Drury.

McNasty is not a bad choice. I wonder if he can switch to defense. He might be more valuable there. The kid takes stupid penalties, but he can run over you like a train.

Jxmarts 01-20-2011 12:52 AM

Sure Weise is in the NHL already, but he's like the second coming of Jason Ward. You can pad your roster with those kind of guys any off season. I value Yogan's upside much more.

mti79 01-20-2011 12:55 AM

Pashnin, I am holding out hope for the guy. (Niemi as well) Add Kolarik, glad I helped to start that trend... lol
