Will Sidney Crosby leave Pens for Canadiens in 2013
Sidney Crosby has often stated that his favorite team growing up was the Montreal Canadiens. By 2013, the salary cap will approx. be $65 million (with the maximum allowable amount for one player at 20%) if revenues grow at the same pace as the last couple years and assuming the next collective bargaining agreement gives players the same percentage of total revenue. Given this, Crosby will be able to obtain a contract that will pay him $12+ million per season.

Since Crosby has achieved the goal of bringing the Stanley Cup to Pittsburgh, will he set his sights on a new destination like Montreal when he becomes a free agent in 2013. He would play for his favorite childhood team and be in a larger market which would allow him to make more money.

I doubt it. He might sign with Montreal at some point, late in his career, but not anytime soon.

Rowdy Roddy Peeper 01-20-2011 10:33 PM

That's a bingo.

SidGenoMario 01-20-2011 10:34 PM

He was all set on it but then all the booing in the playoffs hurt his feelings. He's now going to the Atlanta Thrashers.

Galchenyum 01-20-2011 10:34 PM

I personally believe that if Crosby ever leaves Pittsburgh, it's because he'll have been traded. And I doubt that will happen either. Just seems like the kind of guy who will spend his whole career there, but you never know.

If anything, it might be more likely to see Crosby finish off his career with the Habs or something.

Saving Greiss 01-20-2011 10:35 PM

No. Mario would murder Shero if that happened.

NaiveLeafsFan 01-20-2011 10:35 PM

I think you guys are forgetting one vital aspect.

Every single good ol' Canadian boy, especially those born in the GTA wanna play for the Leafs.

Claimed Off Waivers 01-20-2011 10:35 PM

He'll sign with Montreal when he's 37-38 and washed up.

MapleLeafsFan4Ever 01-20-2011 10:35 PM

So just because Crosby was a fan of the Canadiens growing up he will automatically sign with them when he becomes a UFA? Honestly he won't ever make to becoming a UFA because the Penguins will re-sign him long before that, plus why give Montreal fans the hope that just because he was a fan of their's that he will go there. Back in July 2007 a lot of Montreal fans assumed Daniel Briere would sign there because he was French Canadien and we know that never happened, so no wonder it's easy to laugh at some of the Canadiens fans when it comes to them and free agent players.

TheBuriedHab 01-20-2011 10:36 PM

I think he hates the habs now. But with that said, yes he will leave for the habs.

He'll beat up Shero and spraypaint "fWo" on his body. Then Sid and Mario will walk into Montreal and start the French World Order.

Vikke 01-20-2011 10:36 PM

He'll fool 'em all and sign with the Caps to play with his long time hero Ovechkin. Bank on it.

JeffMangum 01-20-2011 10:37 PM

He's signing with the Rangers for a max contract. Don't even bother arguing, 'cause I'mma right.

TheBuriedHab 01-20-2011 10:39 PM

Or hes gonna take his talents to south beach and sign with the Panthers

Phousse 01-20-2011 10:39 PM

I remember when Mario Lemieux signed with the Canadiens because they were his favourite team. He had already brought 2 cups to Pittsburgh, too!

Zubrus Coffee Maker 01-20-2011 10:40 PM

he'll be a penguin for life. even if the pens start to fade in a decade i'm sure he would stay through a re-build so he can retire a penguin. also, one other thing, its been beaten to death but sid the kid, is really no longer a kid. he may still like the habs but i am 99% sure that his favourite team changed to pittsburgh back in the summer of 05. unless something changes between 2013 and now, he's been treated with nothing but respect in pittsburgh, he knows that the penguins are his team and he knows that pittsburgh is the best place to be for his career moving forward.

KaylaJ 01-20-2011 10:40 PM

Crosby has actually talked about this before and said something about how they used to be his favorite team, but he has no interest in leaving the Pens.

JTG 01-20-2011 10:41 PM

You'd have to pry him away from Pittsburgh's dead lifeless fingers.

MapleLeafsFan4Ever 01-20-2011 10:41 PM

The Penguins have a total of 18,087 seats at the Consol Energy Center, because Corsby wears #87. Now that may not seem like a big deal but to have that specifc number of seats shows how important Crosby has been to them and why he will be a Penguin for life.

Jules Winnfield 01-20-2011 10:42 PM

Crosby will sign a 10 year $87 million dollar deal with the Pens when his current deal is up.

The Pens already dedicated 18,087 as the number of seats in the new arena to him. Maybe they'll give him 87 Range Rovers, 87 new Playstation games, or any other assortment of 87 he wants. :sarcasm:

schumway2 01-20-2011 10:42 PM

How great would it be if after a long Lebronesque free agent tour he signs a max deal with Nashville. LOL

Just lock up the thread now, because this is /thread.

Shinsuke Nakamura 01-20-2011 10:43 PM

Anyone who definitively says yes or no is wrong. No one knows the answer. I doubt even Crosby does currently.

Nah, that's Ribeiro.

RJ8812 01-20-2011 10:44 PM

he probably wont, and because of that, Habs fans will boo him every time he comes to MTL
