Who is on the Kings Radar for the 2011 Draft

Throughout the year the Los Angeles Kings have moved up and down the draft ladder like a yoo-yoo. At it sits now we'd pick 9-10th. Exactly who would the Kings take at that spot and who they really covet may be two different players.. Positionally, the Kings are stacked everywhere except LW. On the portside, LA-Manchester have some players such as Andrei Loktionov,Buddy Holloway that are converts. Others that are currently on the Kings: APoni,MSturm,BRichardson may be gone at seasons end so it makes the addition of more LWers even more likely. And with RSmyth getting a little long in tooth(35 this year) the need for LWer pronto almost reaches critical mass...At number 10 the Kings would take someone other than a LW, because the strength of the draft at that point is not LW,it is Center and thus VNamestnikov,or RStrome. If the Kings had their perference though they would select either Brandon Saad or Sven Bartschi....

It will be a dman...book it.

Kings Will Not Draft D-men In 2011

Since DLombardi has come on board the Los Angeles Kings have spent heavily on D-men. In 2006,JRyan-bust,2007,THickey-progressing,2007,AMartinez-LA-doing fine,2008,DDoughty-young star,2008,CTeubert-young,tough-D-progressing,2008,VVoynov-ready-willing,2008-ACampbell-progressing,2009,NDesLauriers-progressing,2010,DForbort-Top 4-progressing...now if there is money on the line I'd say the Los Angeles Kings take a forward with a perference for a scoring LWer with grit or a scoring LWer...Brandon Saad...Sven Bartschi...

With the TBA pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft the Los Angeles Kings are proud to select, someone we will all ***** about!

Duc620 01-24-2011 06:07 PM

Can't draft for immediate needs.

My guess is BPA skilled forward - as opposed to a one dimensional physical forward (altho, there's nothing wrong with a skilled physical forward either!)

IMHO, the higher the Kings are (10 or higher in this years draft) the more likely they are to package it for an immediate impact NHL player. Next year's draft is reportedly deeper.

Knight of the Realm 01-24-2011 06:10 PM

I hope the pick will be traded this year in all honesty. If not, any forward will do.

Haik 01-24-2011 06:23 PM

Same here. I hope we don't make any picks in the first round.

Give a look into Matt Puempel. I like this kid an awful lot.

cnshockey 01-24-2011 07:13 PM

Joel Armia.

Isn't one of Gretzky's kids draft-eligible by now?

Ollie Weeks 01-24-2011 07:33 PM

Williams and our first to move up in the draft.

Ty did play but quit, and Trevor plays baseball & football.

Last I heard, Ty toiled for a bit on the Shattuck's St-Mary's. At least according to Wikipedia, he quit hockey and now goes to Arizona State. His other son Trevor plays baseball and is a freshman at SDSU. He's got one more son, but he just turned 10.

Williams is UFA after the season, so I don't think his rights will be worth too much.

To all those saying we should trade our pick- I really hope we do not...
If you look at the recent cup winners/ top contenders, they rarely ever trade their first.
2010- Blackhawks- didn't trade their first.
2009- Penguins- didn't trade their first( they did the year before... didn't work out so great...)
2008- Detroit- didn't trade their first
2007- Anaheim- well we don't really want to follow them right??? But they did trade theirs prior to the season but on the same note they got pronger for a steal so... and they also still had a pick for that year
2006- Carolina- they traded theirs the year before i think
2004- Tampa Bay- did not trade their first

Yea.. so trading your first isn't the best philosophy in building a team imo unless you are getting an amazing deal...

If we are getting a rick nash type of player, then I'd be for it assuming the deal was reasonable and not crazy overpayment...(and that would be after this season not during the season, little purpose in getting a big name half way through the season as it messes up chemistry and even if you are a cup contender(which the kings wont be this year, next year maybe) it rarely ever works. I think their was a yahoo article showing how badly big deals at or around the deadline fail.

To be on topic- wasn't their an article on the kings scouting Armia?
He'd I'd be interested in if the Kings have their pick(hopefully they do...)
I hope the kings are eying a forward, regardless of position, though, unless a D falls into our lap that is just so bpa we have to take him, as next year is supposedly really deep on D and we have too many D to start.

That sounds like quitter talk to me. I'll revisit this in a couple months.

I think the Kings will still make the playoffs (6-8th seed like I thought at the start of the season) If not, they will just barely miss. Talking bout the draft isn't necessarily quitter talk if you are talking bout mid-late range picks(30 would be even better) and not top 10 :P.

Tonellisghost 01-24-2011 10:28 PM

The draft is considered weak from (depending on who you are asking) around the 60 player mark. The top ten are all exceptional ranked talents. Another consideration is that there isn't any truly generational talents in this draft as far as CSS is concerned. That said, also depending on who you ask at the various scouting orgs they will all tell you different opinions on what makes a player differ from being considered an elite vs a generational talent.

We need to find some gifted scoring wingers and this draft is chock full of them in the top 60 for sure. I would call this draft a great draft for solid defencive prospects first but that is just an opinion.

Moses Doughty 01-25-2011 12:36 AM

To the Gretz thing__None play hockey anymore, they played when they were young, jeez was there a crowd to get to my games when they were there:laugh: Trevor goes to the Aztecs next year for baseball and thats all I know

And back on topic, either trade it or go for skilled forward. Would be nice if we get McColgan, a former Jr. King

no name 01-25-2011 12:45 AM

OK, I'll bite.

I don't see how the Kings can draft a Dman. There just isn't any way to develop so many high level defenseman. I'm always a BPA guy in every sport but the Kings have built so heavy on the back end that they simply can't go that route. They need to take the best forward available with my preference being a center. You can always turn a center into a winger if needed.

S C O R I N G - W I N G E R

NSX 01-25-2011 01:38 AM

Trade the pick!

Tyler Toffoli and Maxim Kitsyn were drafted last year, so there's your wingers with offensive upside.

Orenji 01-25-2011 01:41 AM

Take Prince.

He works well with Toffoli. Let them continue playing together in the minors through the AHL.

Puck U 01-25-2011 02:26 AM

I'd be Happy with one or two of these Guys ...

Yeah, Matt Puempel, who should pretty much be top ten talent but plays on a horrible team (Ryan Spooner got traded from there about a month ago because the team was clearly rebuilding). MP is having a good year considering his team is garbage.

Shane Prince would be nice too, he's on the same line as Tyler Toffoli right now, with Ryan Martindale.

Ty Rattie is going to be a great NHLer, imo. Just has the intangibles, I really would love to get a guy like that.

I think we pretty much all agree that a winger is our biggest need, more specifically a LW. Shane Prince & Matt Puempel fit the bill, let's see if Dean drafts with a BPA perspective or needs. Forbort was definitely not a need and I'm still upset with the pick when someone like Tarasenko was still on the board. Hopefully Forbort proves me wrong though
