All-Encompassing All-Star Weekend Thread

Split up the Sedins, would love to see them throw down.

Kopi goes in 5th round.

Backes is picked last.

Why am I looking forward to the draft more than I am the game?

because the game sucks

Backes is all that is right with Hockey. He goes early

I pick Perry to be picked last

The Skills competition is good though

I hope a couple of the "Guardians" slip on the ice

That's really all I'm looking forward to.

Last night I watched parts of the ASG from Montreal a few years ago - it was quite painful. EVERYBODY just stands around and tries impossible passes.

I don't remember the ASG being this boring when I was a kid. Well, it may also be that I probably didn't see a lot of them when I was a kid either.

and you were a kid

I think kids appreciate all star games 100x more than adults

Are we allowed to drunk post in this thread? :)

driller1 01-28-2011 02:36 PM

Instead of a First Goal of the Game contest, can we have a Last Pick of the Draft Contest?

Yeah, Backes is awesome. Granted, a big part of his game is playing physical/chirping which won't happen here but he shouldn't go last. The last two forward picks should be Elias and Kessel IMO.

Buddy The Elf 01-28-2011 03:15 PM

I like the skills competition. That would be cool if they did a skills competition after the SCF where teams sent there best players in each element so we could find out who really has the hardest shot, fastest skater etc.

SLang 01-28-2011 03:28 PM

The way I see it the players don't really care about the game either, it's just a relaxing weekend to **** around and mingle with other NHL stars.

Therefore the "draft" is merely going to be a popularity contest. So if you guys DO start a "last pick of the draft" contest, put me down for Corey Perry as well.

kingsholygrail 01-28-2011 03:54 PM

If it's a popularity contest, why isn't Visnovsky a captain?

Cutty Sarkn3ss* 01-28-2011 04:01 PM

Will not watch, ASG's always are a big let down

ahh the yearly **** the all star thread

And i'm on the bandwagon of the All Star haters.

Why is this **** interupting my beloved NHL season.
Move it to the summer or at the and of the season.

What if the Kings had a team fantasy draft...

Make the 2 goalies the captains and give Bernier the first pick.

1. Team Bernier - Kopitar
2. Team Quick - Doughty
3. Team Bernier - Johnson
4. Team Quick - Brown
5. Team Bernier- Williams
6. Team Quick - Stoll
7. Team Bernier - Scuderi
8. Team Quick - Mitchell
9. Team Bernier - Smyth
10. Team Quick - Simmonds
11. Team Bernier - Handzus
12. Team Quick- Loktionov
13. Team Bernier - Richardson
14. Team Quick - Greene
15. Team Bernier - Clifford
16. Team Quick - Martinez
17. Team Bernier - Lewis
18. Team Quick - Drewiskie
19. Team Bernier - Ponikarovsky
20. Team Quick - Sturm
21. Team Bernier - Harrold
22. Team Quick - Westgarth

William H Bonney 01-28-2011 05:28 PM

Smyth - Kopitar - Williams
Richardson - Handzus - Clifford
Ponikarovsky - Lewis

Johnson - Scuderi
Harrold

Bernier

vs.

Loktionov - Stoll - Brown
Westgarth - Sturm - Simmonds

Mitchell - Doughty
Martinez - Greene
Drewiske

Quick

Bernier has the forward advantage on that. Quick the advantage on D obviously with our 3 best defenseman after the Top 4 was split.

Herby 01-28-2011 05:31 PM

Shanahan is exactly right about the rule changes trickling down to minor hockey and the development of players in today's NHL and how it has enabled the super talented players like Duchene and Skinner to step in and contribute as 18 year olds because they haven't had slugs hooking and holding them for years.

I think in hindsight the lockout and the rule changes were the best thing to ever happen to hockey.

The game is so much better in almost all aspects.

Martyros 01-28-2011 05:52 PM

Does anyone else feel that the dominant superstars may actually go later?

Herby 01-28-2011 05:58 PM

Yes those rosters are lopsided.

Guess we can bring up Moller and put him on Team Quick and put Voynov on Team Bernier.

I think we would all agree we would have to go far into Manchester's roster for Westgarth not to be the last pick.

William H Bonney 01-28-2011 06:11 PM

Last pick tonight apparently gets a car. Nice consolation prize.

123slam 01-28-2011 06:43 PM

Really? A ****ing car?

Plus Bernier has the advantage in net :sarcasm:
