Henrik with Legitmate Shot at Vezina???.....FINALLY??

Henrik Lundqvist might finally be a favorite and have a legitmate shot at grabbing the vezina trophy for the nhl's best goalie. Since yesterday was 70 days until the final regular season game vs the devils and end of the regular season for everyone, I think its a given as of now that he will be nominated once again. He will most likely extend that record from 5-6 years as the first goalie to start his career with 6 straight 30 win seasons. Will King Henrik finally reign supreme?

JeffMangum 01-30-2011 04:05 PM

Tim Thomas will win it, easily.

t3hg00se 01-30-2011 04:07 PM

Thomas is going to win it without a doubt but Hank will definitely get nominated again. I really can't wait for him to win one.

BlueshirtBlitz 01-30-2011 04:08 PM

Hank will be nominated this year, lose it to Thomas, get nominated next year, and lose it to the next goalie who suddenly plays great only to fall into being completely average again. Repeat until Hank retires.

FOXHOUND* 01-30-2011 04:11 PM

Hes got a good shot at another nomination but unless Thomas ***** the bed in the second half he won't have a shot at winning it this year.

CHGoalie27 01-30-2011 04:12 PM

I don't know...I have a feeling if Thomas doesn't keep his numbers Hank will win.

Machinehead 01-30-2011 04:19 PM

No chance this year. He may be a finalist but Thomas could play without his legs and one arm tied behind his back the rest of the way and still win it.

mm11 01-30-2011 04:24 PM

typical workmanlike Hank season. He is a workhorse and one of the best, but does anyone really think he cares about being nominated? also, these 30 win seasons probably means nothing to this game warrior as well. I would have to presume Hank has played the top 3 minutes of tenders the last 6 years so the 30 win seasons is a good stat but alittle overrated no?

taking nothing away from Hank, he absolutely has a squad in front of him that can make a run this year. Considering all the injuries this blue shirt team seems to be getting better and better driven by Hank himself ofcourse

Swagelin 01-30-2011 04:24 PM

Tim Thomas is in the lead for it right now. But you never know, he may go down to an injury, or maybe his stats will return back to what they were last year. It also depends how far Hank carries this team in the playoffs.
Its gonna be tough for Hank to win, but I wouldn't just put him out of the running yet.

don't think playoffs can be a factor.

Hey Timmys old who knows how he holds up the rest of the year

Thomas will win easily. Hank will definitely be a finalist though.

I guess that was comical, but If Thomas comes back to earth and has about a .930 SP, and his GAA raises a bit well see what happens.

I respect your optimism but the last two threads you have started are really reaching.

I mean Kreider breaking a record thats stood for 2 decades and Lundqvist winning the vezina. This one is a little more realistic but still highly unlikely. Had lundqvist started the season as well as hes playing now he and thomas would be in a dead heat. But lundqvist is a notoriously slow starter and that may be what holds him back from ever getting a vezina.

yeah, Thomas has to have an absolutely horrible back end to lose it.

NYR Viper 01-30-2011 05:05 PM

I really don't think Thomas wons it again this year. I think he will be a finalist. If Hank can somehow get to 40 wins with 8-10 shutouts, I think he takes it.

Have you SEEN tim thomas stats. They are far and away better than the rest of the leagues

GarretJoseph* 01-30-2011 05:08 PM

Hanks has no chance with the way Thomas is playing. He's Hasek like at the moment.

jniklast 01-30-2011 05:09 PM

Unfortunately for Hank, Thomas has an insane year. I'd say in at least 8 out of every 10 years Lundqvist would have a good shot at actually winning it with his numbers.

Thomas is on pace for the best sv% ever in a season.

He'll win it, barring a meltdown of epic proportions.

I dont think it will continue. I see him coming back down to earth in the 2nd half.

The 30 win mark is useless historically when it now counts shootout wins.

He is #1 in SV% and GAA (by quite a margin) #1 in SO (tied with King) and #2 in wins. He has also played 10 less games than the wins leader (Hiller, with 1 more win) and Price (who is tied with him for #2).

Even if he comes back to earth and posts lundqvist type numbers he will win by a mile and imo he wont. I think he will keep it up.
