Very dissapointed that Stortini was the one to get waived instead of Jacques. But not surprising. Renney never seemed to be in the guy's corner.

Vitto79 02-01-2011 11:15 AM

huh can the guy play hockey or is he just a goon?

Not really great at either. He had a good run for his talent level.

Well, he's a piss poor goon, but he does bring a lot of energy, and is a decent forechecker. He brings a similar game to JF Jaques, but Jacques seems to be bigger and hits more consistently. I would be surprised if anyone claims Stortini.

Habsterix* 02-01-2011 11:18 AM

If I was in Gauthier's position, I'd definitely put a claim on Stortini. He's exactly the type of player that the Habs need on the fourth line.

I know, I can hear some people say that he's not good enough for Edmonton so why would he be good enough for the Habs? Because they don't have anyone in that mold, that's why. And he's free...

Is he a Torts kind of guy?

Is the Boog ever coming back?

stevecanuck16 02-01-2011 11:20 AM

I'd take him on the Canucks as a 13th forward. Can play the game decently enough and will take on anyone.

tv14 02-01-2011 11:20 AM

I would have preferred Jacques, actually both, but I am glad about this, I never liked him and he is virtually useless.

WestIslander 02-01-2011 11:21 AM

I want Stortini in Montreal!

Quote:

A very strong power forward who is the polar opposite on the ice from his kind demeanor away from the rink. The rough aspects of the game are some of Strotini's best assets but the big winger can also score.
Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Eller - Moen
Darche - Halpern - Stortini

Beerfish 02-01-2011 11:26 AM

JF Jacques is beyond terrible, pretty well never fights and his hitting is sporadic at best.

Dumb move by the Oilers, for all the flack that Stortini takes he was the teams one and only beaker/agitator and though not the heavyweight everyone wanted him to be still a guy that would step up for his team mates.

Jacques -32 in 136 career games, Stortini -6 in 256 career games as a 4th liner on a series of terrible teams.

Oilers go from marshmellow soft to butter in the sun soft.

joestevens29 02-01-2011 11:26 AM

Great heart and great attitude, but he can't skate and he hasn't been able to find a role in edmonton. He sure looks decent some nights and then other's he looks just awful.

TOG26 02-01-2011 11:35 AM

After he got absolutely embarrassed by Barch before the allstar break, he is done. Can't fight, and when he does, he doesn't get the momentum on the Oilers side due to him either getting his ass kicked or hugging out the fight. Also gets distracted on the ice too much and ignores the play at times. Does work his ass off though most games. The one thing he has going for him.

danishh 02-01-2011 11:37 AM

i could see one of the bottom teams claiming him as a warm body so they can trade some guys away over the next few weeks.

I dont see him as an NHLer next year though.

MXD 02-01-2011 11:38 AM

PLEASE, Pierre Gauthier, DON'T CLAIM HIM!!!

You're entitled to not liking Jacques, but you shouldn't making stuff up about him. If he has one good point, it's his hitting abilities with 64 hits in only 27 games! What are your expectations? :shakehead

Of the 4th line toughguys on the team (Stortini/Jacques/McIntyre), he's the only one who knew how to play hockey.

It would be a real sin to get tougher, right?

Get another Pyatt instead! :help:

I'd rather had Pyatt than Zach "Huggy Bear" Stortini.

And I want toughness too, not a punching bag with limited skills.

I'd like us to get tougher, but getter an enforcer who can't enforce is basically like getting a playmaker who cannot playmake... Except for pricetag which is 7 millions lower.

If we're to get a punching bag, at least get a competent player like TKO.

You may want that (and so do I) but it's Jacques Martin coaching. He'll take a guy who has some hockey sense, can skate and not hurt the team for the 5-8 minutes that he'll put him on the ice for.

I truly feel that it's a compromise that I'm, at this point, ready to settle for instead of the status quo that we've had since Laraque was canned. (I'm not comparing him to Laraque BTW) ;)

How much have you seen him play in the last couple of years (be honest here)? Stortini is NOT an enforcer. He's a guy who will hit, won't be afraid to drop the gloves and who will add grit to a line-up in desperate need for some!

Moneypuck 02-01-2011 11:58 AM

So long Huggybear.
