OT : Pre-game bar / place in Detroit ?

Hello everyone,

Me and 2 friends, from Quebec City, decided we wanted to make a trip to see the Red wings play in their arena. We love the wings, and to go see them live in your building is something we always wanted to do. We are looking for the 15th march game against Washington.

I was simply wondering if there is a place to go and take a few beers / meal before the game, close from the Joe Louis ? We will get an hotel in Windsor, so I guess we'll be already pretty close from the arena as soon as we arrive in DET.

Thanks in advance ! Can't wait to see Datsyuk !

I'll third that. I ALWAYS go there before games now, and you have to do Irish Car Bombs- they are good luck!

Love the bar, food is meh- typical bar food, shuttle drivers are fantastic.

Also love Old Shillelagh.

Didn't see Detroit Beer Co., they're another good one, with some good beer.

I will have to also vouch for Old Shillelagh.

Go to Lafayette Coney Island if you get a shot, it's the real Detroit experience summed up pretty perfectly.

We went to Cobo Joe's when we were in town. It's walking distance to the Joe. The food is bad but the atmosphere is great. When we were there it was packed and they were playing fights from the Norris Division days.

You could always head to Atwater Brewery in the Rivertown Warehouse District

237 Joseph Campau Street
Detroit, MI 48207-4107

I guess this would be the best place to put this...

I was at the joe for the devs-wings game a few weeks ago. Can't express how great of a time I had. Ate with some friends at hockeytown cafe before, took the shuttle to the game early to look around (first time at the joe) and watch warmups.

First arena I've ever been to in which I was not heckled between periods while getting a snack. And I loved the atmosphere in the joe. Great place to watch a game.

Will go back the next time the devs are in town..

Go to Cobo Joes at your own risk. Went there today a couple hours after the wings game bout 5-6pm and they were closed for whatever reason. To top it off its in a kinda shady area, my girlfriend was with me and there was a bunch of shady people following us. We felt like we were going to get shot.

If I had to guess, I'd say Easter was the reason. All of the bars in my neighborhood were closed today.

Maybe put this in the Visiting Detroit thread? I could use this info when I plan to visit
