LOL

ya right

Fire Julien 02-08-2011 01:23 PM

Surprise, that "rumour" is emanating out of Toronto.

Vexed 02-08-2011 01:27 PM

These boards undervalue almost every player they discuss. Komi could easily garner a 2nd and a mid range prospect. That's a very low price defensmen in all seriousness.

Isles_Guy* 02-08-2011 01:27 PM

I heard it too

Komisarek and
The 2011 2nd
2012 1st

for

The Canes
2011 4th

canadianeh 02-08-2011 01:30 PM

Komisarek has negative value at his contract.

His play has been terrible for 2+ seasons, and no one would want to pay him that much unless they get something else along with him.

The boards can underate players but Komi is not one of them. He's a terrible dman plain and simple and couldn't easily bring a 2nd let alone that and a decent prospect. Unless there is an even bigger cap dump coming the other way.

Hampe 02-08-2011 01:43 PM

Carolina needs to add Staal and Skinner.

Blackhawkswincup 02-08-2011 01:44 PM

Makes no sense for Canes

There are much cheaper pylons available

Scottyk9 02-08-2011 01:45 PM

Thought the canes are working on a limited budget ?

Anton Skinner 02-08-2011 01:53 PM

i dont think this happens at all......

oh wait, its JR....reclamation projects are his forte. not that they all work out, but see Jokinen for one example of a good one. not saying thats what Komi could turn into but.....

that being said, the only way i see this happening is if the Canes shed another salary. Pitkanen most likely isnt going anywhere. If we can shed Samsonov's salary (2.8mil real dollars, 2.533 cap hit) that still means we are adding about 2.7mil real dollars to the payroll if we dont she some more salary. And the canes are way more focused on real dollars at this point. If the Canes trade Pitkanen for only prospects and picks, then maybe it makes sense. But that is a SEVERE downgrade on defense, and moving into the playoffs that will not be a good idea. Komi would be the #4 d-man here tops, most likely bottom pairing, making Harrison the #7 d-man if Pitkanen isnt traded. And there is no way JR is dumb enough to give up a 2nd AND a prospect for a bottom pairing d-man.

GordieHoweHatTrick 02-08-2011 01:57 PM

This "source" managed to get Komi's cap-hit all wrong..

anyhow, if it means shedding a 4.5M cap-hit, re-signing Kabs and using the left-over cap space, then the Leafs will give you Mike Komisarek

seanlinden 02-08-2011 01:58 PM

This is just speculation based on a Canes blogger who thinks its worth pursuing. Considering that Carolina isn't the most attractive place for UFAs, and that he'd fit nicely in a top 4 with Pitkanen, Corvo & Gleason, it makes some sense. The problem is of course that it would be an expensive top 4.

From this year's perspective, it would problably require them to ditch Samsonov to the Leafs, and move White at the deadline (they'll get a pretty good return on him). Next year would be the bigger issue, as they don't have a ton of money committed, but also don't have many players signed. Assuming Pitkanen costs $5.5m, that's $17.75m in real dollars to 5 defencemen (McBain as the #5). The last 2 years are much more attractive though, with Komi only making $3.5 in each.

Transplanted Caper 02-08-2011 01:58 PM

Is Rutherford high? If not, I'm willing to pay for him to get to the point where he'd take Komisarek off our hands.

noBSleafsFAN 02-08-2011 01:58 PM

Komisarek has proven that he is not a solid top-4 guy, but I think on a good team like Carolina he could be a solid 5th D. I think if Carolina offered a 3rd round pick, BB would bite.

Is it? I can't find where that site comes from.

RogerRoeper* 02-08-2011 02:01 PM

That site is a joke. They're still talking about Kessel requesting a trade and what team he'll go to?
