Didnt know things were THAT bad for Mason.

Wonder what they'd look for in return.

RunFromTheBear 02-13-2011 09:16 AM

Rask
Wheeler
Stuart or Boston's 3rd
Toronto's 1st
Boston's 1st
One of Colborne, Caron, Hamill
One of Alexandrov, Cohen, Cross

for

Nash
Mason

The Bruins need a goal scorer, so Statsny isn't a great fit. Maybe...

Rask
Wheeler
Toronto's 1st
One of Colborne, Caron, Hamill, Alexandrov, Cohen, Cross

for

Statsny
Liles
Anderson

Rask for Mason is a nice building block in a Nash/Umberger deal. If Bruins trade Rask they need a decent cost controlled goalie in return to back up Thomas.

What?!?! If Mason = Rask, why would Columbus trade him? He is their only signed goalie going forward and he has a reasonable number.

I think we have a first here...two people from opposing teams agree on equal value.

Rask - Boston has Thomas for forseeable future, may not retain Rask when he is a RFA.

Wheeler - RFA in the offseason.

Stuart or Boston's 3rd - Bruins have a solid 6 without him.

Toronto's 1st - Boston will not have a pick this high for the forseeable future.

Boston's 1st - Still has two 2nds, all picks in 2012.

One of Colborne, Caron, Hamill - Still have 2 of the 3 plus Spooner/Knight.

One of Alexandrov, Cohen, Cross - Still have 2 of the 3 plus Kampfer/McQuaid.

With Nash, Bruins are new favorite to win the cup NOW. It would hurt for the future but its not something the Bruins can overcome, with their other young talent.

what do the Jackets want as return?

What do you think about it?

IkeaMonkey* 02-13-2011 11:02 AM

Misread. But honestly. Awful deal for boston.

I can't even understand what you are trying to say????

"What does Rask's skill have anything to do with Mason being traded? Jesus that doesn't even make sense."

If Rask was traded to the Blue Jackets, it has a lot to do with Mason being traded.

"Do you even watch the Bruins at all?"

Season ticket holder.

"Rask had a damn sub-2 GAA last year and his GAA is still better than Mason's this year. Not to mention his career save% is 19 points better than Mason's."

Exactly. So Rask being that much better than Mason, helps the Bruins get Nash.

"Honestly are you for real?"

You just said Rask was equal to Mason....now you are telling me how much better Rask is. I think you are the one having the issue.

hockeyball 02-13-2011 11:15 AM

With Niemi a UFA in the off-season, Stalock seriously injured (though hopefully back for next season, probably not ready for NHL right off the bat) and Niitty's injuries I could see the Shark's having some interest if they can also get a defensemen in the deal.

What are the Jackets looking for? Sharks would want Tyutin or Hejda I would imagine.

At first, I thought you were underrating Rask(because any Bs fan who wants to trade Rask is well...).

Then I realized you were underrating Mason.

Then I realized you want to give up the Bruins entire future for Rick Nash.

Still. Awful.

Horton - Krejci - Lucic
Marchand - Bergeron - Nash
Ryder - Seguin - Recchi
Thronton - Campbell - Paille/Caron

Chara - Kampfer
Seidenberg - Ference
Boychuk - McQuaid

Thomas
Mason

This is a team that could win this year, everyone except Ryder and Recchi would be back next year...plus possibly Savard. They would be a favorite for next year as well. They could add someone like Liles and still be able to work the roster under the cap for this years run.

So what do you suggest?

Rask for Nash? I'll drive Rask over to Columbus, pick Nash up, do a little dance and sign Niemi this offseason.

I suggest you don't dangle your biggest chip to a team that has almost the exact same chip already on their team.

Nash isnt getting traded. Period. Anyone else catch this little gem?

Before everyone gets all worked up proposing a deal for Mason or Mason + Tyutin or Mason plus Nash, take a moment and read the article Portzline wrote about the topic. Mason is available for a young established offensively skilled first pairing defenseman. That would explain the discussions with Philadelphia. For the Boston, San Jose and Toronto posters above, do you think you have such a player available and can you afford to trade them away?
