Van/Ott

To Van: Phillips/Nashvilles 1st round pick
To Ott: Cody Hodgson

Winroba 02-13-2011 02:48 PM

No way

Gillis worked hard to fill our defence with mobile 2-way players and he's not going to go out and move our top prospect for 3 months of a rental 1-way defensive dman.

What happens when the rest of our guys can come back?

Elder - Erhoff
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Ballard - Salo
Phillips (?)

We're currently operating over the cap as it is and Nashville's first is likely in the 20 range.

Bgav 02-13-2011 02:49 PM

Lollll

Peter Griffin 02-13-2011 02:49 PM

Not a chance.

4thliner* 02-13-2011 02:57 PM

Nashiville's 1st can be anywhere between 15-20 realisticly. Phillips will at least return a 2nd if not a late 1st. That is about top 10 pick value.

There is no way you trade that for an injury riddled unproven prospect who can't even stick in the NHL. His value is not that high.

Even with the 15-20th pick I would much rather draft with this pick any of say Ty Rattie, Nicklas Jensen, Matt Puempel, Duncan Siemens, Mark McNeill, Joel Armia, Victor Rask and wait on their potential.

Try again.

Agreed, to much risk. Cody is an OK prospect however he is kind of living off his one good WJC. He is starting to look like a 3rd or 4th liner. Nashville's 1st has a chance to be turned into a better prospect then Hodgson.

Rofl. Get real.

mstad101 02-13-2011 03:10 PM

Make it your own first rounder n than Maybe Gillis takes this proposal seriously. Cuz I don't take it seriously now.
Hodgson won't be moved for a rental.

Cody is moved in a deal that we get a Parise (healthy) or a Booth. Someone who is gonna be a quality player for Vancouver past this season. And if that doesn't materialize, Cody himself will be that quality player.

Nuckles 02-13-2011 03:12 PM

Counter

To Ottawa: Van's 1st
To Vancouver: Erik Karlsson

The reason he cant stick in the NHL is because unlike the Senators his team does not suck. His team is a Stanley Cup Contender who has an abundance of depth at center (again unlike the Senators).

Can you please tell me how you came up with that conclusion? Did you base it on the short stint he played in the NHL on the fourth line on a team that has real good depth at center on the first 3 lines

The guy you quoted is an Oilers fan I think

Even more ironic then. The Oilers have no good young centers coming up other than Gagner

Edler Von Gud 02-13-2011 03:25 PM

I can already see where this thread is going.

Other team fan(s): We want Cody Hodgson, and we want to give you pieces you don't really need.

Canuck fans: No need to move Hodgson short of something special coming the other way. We can patiently let him develop and contribute when he's ready.

Other teams fan(s): Nah we don't want him. He's a 3rd/4th liner at best with a back that's worse than Eric Daze. Oh almost forgot he's got an attitude and is a cancer.

Haha he's your version of Spezza on HF then.

1. Offer trade for Spezza.
2. Get replies saying that the value isn't there.
3. Claim that no GM in the league wants his contract.

Not quite, for us it's:

1. Get offers for Hodgson
2. Point out that we don't need to drop any salary cap because it somehow comes up
3. He becomes injury prone and is a bust

Thats a pretty harsh assessment... Our 7th also has a chance of being better than Hodgson, but I don't think that pick will return him either.

Yeah right. If you are a blue chip prospect you make the team. Mike Fisher cracked a cup contending 109 pts team in Ottawa back in 2000 as a 19 year old

Hossa made it, so did Havlat, and so did Spezza. All these guys made the NHL at 19 on the 3d line.

If you are a top top young player, you will force the teams hand. Why isn't Hogson even sticking as Vancouvers 3rd line center, winger etc etc??

Hogson is overated, actually not even. He just isn't as highly though of as he use to be after than WJC and all the injuries.

Kid must first make his big team's line-up.

We all know Ottawa sucks now (daah), but they didn't always suck and iced more stacked teams than the canucks who are yet to be seen if they can even get out of the 2nd round of the playoffs one of these years, let alone play for the cup. But all that is besides the point, Hogson isn't a full-time NHLer and isn't even the top quality prospect who can crack a contending team at 21 now.

He can still prove he can be a quality player and is young, but he does not have as much value as you think. Just because you were a junior star in Brampton and looking like a star at the next level does not mean you will be one. That may or may not be the case here but every year Hogson does not make the canucks line-up it is looking more and more likely.

danishh 02-13-2011 06:10 PM

i dont think vancouver's a good fit for phillips.

a few injuries on defense (that should all be healed for the playoffs) isnt going to scare gillis into making a reactionary move.

He basically lost 1-2 years of development because of injury.

Why would you put Hodgson in place of the best faceoff man in the league in Manny? Not to mention a defensive giant.

Why would you put a natural center on the wing when we want to develop him at center?

Why would you put him on the fourth line playing with garbage when he could play big minutes in the AHL and continue developing? (Even though he put up 2 points in 5 games, had a decent scoring chances every game, drew a few penalties and was never scored on.)

Just like Grabner was a huge bust, but is now the talk of the NHL. You do know that the big hype of Grabner has come only after toiling in the AHL for years.

Yeah, so Many Malhotra is blocking him now from being an NHLer?

Thanks for making my point.

Today it is malhotra, next year some other grinder...till the guy who is suppose to be a star/superstar NHLer is officially a bust?

bdp 02-13-2011 06:42 PM

What's the word on Hodsgon?

Repeated injuries and unimpressive numbers doesn't entice me much, though I haven't watched him play.

DrChill 02-13-2011 06:49 PM

To Vancouver: Ottawa 1st, Foligno, lee

Too Ottawa : Vancouver 1st, Hodgson
