Hecht and the Mini's Rise Again! Redemption!

The Good -

- Holy shootout!
- Hecht with the GTG assist and the GWG in the shootout made up for the penalties, even the one he didn't commit.
- Poms with a timely goal
- Stafford again. That bandwagon is getting full.
- Enroth as the shootout went on.
- Niedermayer-Gaustad-Grier set a lot of tone and worked the Habs D low.
- Myers got better as the game went on
- Mini's!! Ennis in the shootout and Gerbe as well -- Nate had some good jump and was moved around to get Hecht and Pominville going. And given his height, Enroth is right in there. As is Desharnais too who continues to impress
- Vanek-Byron-McCormick had a couple of shifts that started to turn the tide. Tom's SO Goal and setting the table for Staff's goal were good enough.

The Bad -

- Myers and Rej on the second Hab goal.
- Not a fan of the reffing tonight.
- Price blocker.

The Ugly -

- Did I mention not being a fan of the officiating?
- The refs
- The idiots in stripes.
- Walkom

Awesome comeback for the Sabres and amazing start by Enroth. Sure feels good to beat the refs in their own building...er, I mean, the Habs in their own building.

Fire Me 02-15-2011 09:30 PM

Enroth was a beast tonight. A BEAST. Bye bye Lalime?

Freezerburn 02-15-2011 09:30 PM

If he's not tired tomorrow, Enroth should be between the pipes again. Make it so.

Nah, let Miller have the Leafs. After that, give him another start.

**** Walcom, what a disgusting display of officiating. I love how the Habs had the refs in their corner and they still couldn't win.

I would agree but were playing Toronto and Miller owns them so tomorrow night we see a "Rested Ryan Miller"....

noooooo way; Miller owns the Leafs, plus he's still pissed at himself for his sorry performance against NYI i'll bet, and wants to redeem himself a little bit.

I love every Sabre right now. Even Neids.

ENROTH! We have a backup that looks like he could grow into something more.

(Oh and I'm 3-0 in GDTs )

Macksayev 02-15-2011 09:34 PM

G:

- We came back!
- Stafford's continued success
- Seemed like the team rallied for Jhonas in the SO, good win.

B:

- Jhonas on the first goals of the shootout, he was shaky.

U:

- refs, all night long.

And he was the head of officiating. There's just something so wrong with having someone that bad in that position for any length of time.

The commentators mentioned maybe fatigue setting but I didn't see that, if anything its his strength there and that is something he does need to work on...

Rhett4 02-15-2011 09:35 PM

Good:

Enroth. He was fantastic in the first and kept the Sabres in the game. And just when he looked like he might be too weak in the shootout, he turned it around. This kid should have gotten a few more starts, eh?

Getting two points in a game in hand with the playoff competition sitting.

Staff-juice. Does a body good.

The physical play and cycling after the 1st period.

Mini-me x3.

Now I have Southland on my DVR to watch. AWESOME.

Bad:

Sekera getting burned on that second goal.

That entire first period.

Butler. He looks really indecisive out there.

Ugly:

Bad, bad, bad reffing.

CrankyJay 02-15-2011 09:35 PM

Good:

Got that crucial 2 points
Enroth hanging in there
Stafford with another goal

Bad:

Reffing...holy crap.

Ugly:

My nerves are absolutely shot after that shoot out.

Nah man...nah.

Rivet52 02-15-2011 09:37 PM

Enroth's ready to make the jump. It seems as if the team actually plays in front of him too. They don't do that with Lalime in net.

Jeez, I feel bad for Lalime. I doubt he plays another game for us. He could have played his last game as a Sabre and perhaps the last game of his career. Enroth deserves the starts now. Lalime is here because of Miller but now it's time for Enroth to take the backup job. Lalime will be here the rest of the year, but I'm feeling really confident with our goaltending going into next season.

It's nice to give Miller a rest and to have a young goalie steal some wins for us back there.

Now I know how good Capitals, Wild, Rangers, Stars, and Penguins fans, to name a few, feel to know they have a guy back there that can win some games while resting their starter.

CrankyJay 02-15-2011 09:39 PM

Any reason not to start Enroth tomorrow night against the Leafs?

Rhett4 02-15-2011 09:39 PM

Also, 9 of 10 points in the last 5 games. :handclap:

Two.

1. Miller is great against the Leafs.

2. No need to tire out Enroth already.

Timbo Slice 02-15-2011 09:41 PM

G:
- Enroth was amazing. I can't wait until next year, when we can confidently give him 30 starts.

- Stafford's hot streak continuing. What a beast!

- Pommers just keeps going. Very quietly solid this season.

- Vanek and Ennis coming up hugely clutch in the shootout, and the German winning it with a brilliant goal.

- Our defense locked it down for the last 30 minutes.

- Me shaking with nerves and begging God to let us win for the last 5 minutes of the SO.

B:
- Nothing? I can't remember anything bad right now. I'm on a high.

U:
- Byron's SO attempt. Love the kid, but yikes :laugh:

1) Miller typically dominates the Leafs.
2) Miller has had two days off to rest.
3) Miller *should* be looking to prove something.
4) Playing a goalie twice in two nights is never ideal.

Miller has owned them. He's in their heads and probably could use the confidence boost facing them. But Enroth certainly has left Ruff with a decision for tomorrow...

Freezerburn 02-15-2011 09:42 PM

I'm confident in the team's chances tomorrow with either Miller or Enroth in the net. One day off isn't that much of a break. My vote is to keep Miller out tomorrow to give him a longer break.

New Sabres Captain 02-15-2011 09:42 PM

I'll say one thing about Enroth: he's not Miller. Lot more rebounds than what Miller would give. But those rebounds all went like 2000 feet from his goal, he punched everything out. It didn't look as masterful as a typical Miller performance, but he kept the puck out of the net and gave this team a chance to win a game that after the first 20 minuted they had no business in. And that's all that matters.

And good on Vanek, Ennis, and Gerbe repaying him in the shootout after some weak goals. And of course Hecht winning it, although part of me wanted to see if it would go long enough for Nieds/Grier to shoot only for the pure hilarity.

Big 2 points, that's 1 game in hand cashed in. Now they gotta get the next 2 tomorrow.
