Jim Jackson calling Washington vs. Buffalo on NBC

Idk if this has been discussed anywhere yet, but i thought it was interesting.
how does everyone feel about JJ calling the regionalized game between the capitals and Sabres on NBC? I don't ever recall him doing any other nhl games besides ours, am I wrong?

DeadPhish5858 02-20-2011 01:32 AM

Interesting. I've only heard him call Flyers and Phillies games.

I like it, good for him. He is a good play-by-play guy.

duds 02-20-2011 07:12 AM

JJ is a profesional and he knows his hockey. i would love to show him off to the hockey world just like a guy likes to show off his hot gf. Let everyone know we have the best play by play guy in Hockey

JagerPuck 02-20-2011 07:24 AM

Does he have to work with Emmerich?
Please say it isn't so!

I dont think they'll be using two play-by-play guys.

He will work with Ray Ferraro.

Ken Daniels (play-by-play for Red Wings) and Joe Micheletti(Rangers TV analyst?) will do the Flyers game.

RevUpThoseGolfCarts 02-20-2011 08:04 AM

I'd rather him do the Flyers game both because I'm used to his voice when the Flyers are playing and it is broadcast over a wider area.

Sucks that when he gets a chance to go national, he gets the smallest area

Gert B Frobe 02-20-2011 08:12 AM

good for him - I bet he gets a nice paycheck for it

DrinkFightFlyers 02-20-2011 08:28 AM

Nice. JJ is one of my favorite play-by-play guys out there in any sport.

Phunhog 02-20-2011 10:24 AM

How would you feel if Jim Jackson called the 1st and 3rd periods and Tim Saunders called the middle. I just like the way Saunders calls the game. Would love to have him be the Flyers TV guy, but Jim Jackson proves to be pretty popular, at least on these boards.

FlyerCub 02-20-2011 10:36 AM

He was part of the Versus roster at one point, maybe even back when it was still OLN.

It looks like they threw PBP guys with teams they don't normally call for today's regional games, but kept the color analysts with their team - hence why we're getting Joe Micheletti today.

CptCannon 02-20-2011 10:51 AM

Woulda been quite funny if the pbp-guy was one of the team's actual pbp-guy and the analyst the opposing team's actual analyst.

Bill_Meltzer 02-20-2011 11:14 AM

Jim did some non-Flyers Versus (may have been when it was still OLN) games after the lockout and did a real good job.

We'll get to see the beginning nationally at least.

That's been done a lot on Versus. A few years ago when the Canes and Bruins were in the conference finals, it was John Forslund (Canes pbp) with Andy Brickley (Bruins color analyst).

Could you imagine if the Flyers played the Pens in the conference finals and they had JJ with Bob Errey, or even better yet, their play-by-play guy with Jonesy and Coatsey.

Jray42 02-20-2011 12:52 PM

As much as I like JJ, I like Saunders better.

Jonesy would punch Steigerwald in the face and he would deserve it.

How old is Saunders anyway? he is great - I like Jackson but Saunders is very enthusiastic and a bit of a homer but that's ok.

Two I remember was either the Blues or Colorado in Nashville, and a Presidents' Day game in San Jose vs. the Thrashers.

I was puzzled when he wasn't dialed up to do playoff games in 2007

i'd love to hear steiggy TRY to be nonbiased. i don't know if he's ever considered it. errey would probably do okay in the national spotlight minus the annoying slur in his voice.

Spongolium* 02-21-2011 08:54 AM

JJ will be a great national commentator. He knows enough about the game to talk about it rationally, and he knows about teams other than washington and the penguins
