Pronger...please nothing big... :shakehead

MiamiScreamingEagles 02-24-2011 08:16 PM

Post-game report: X-rays were negative.

MiamiScreamingEagles 02-24-2011 08:56 PM

From Holmgren, Pronger could have returned to the game but he was held out (precautionary).

King Forsberg 02-24-2011 09:01 PM

Thank the lord.

Pronger could have returned, but #Flyers used caution. X-rays were negative on the hand/wrist, and he will play vs. OTT on Sat.

Thanks for the good news MSE

I was truly expecting the worst, so this was excellent news :5:

JLHockeyKnight 02-25-2011 08:07 AM

Glad they sat him for safety's sake. We've been lucky to only lose lower players like Bart, O'Donnell, Walker, and we've only taken one really key injury in Betts IMHO. Losing Pronger would be the worst thing...plus it would just about force a deadline move.

MiamiScreamingEagles 02-25-2011 11:41 AM

Pronger is now termed "questionable" for the Ottawa game.

MiamiScreamingEagles 02-28-2011 10:44 AM

Pronger is practicing today (Monday).

Good News

Is he doing any intensive elbowing or slashing drills to make sure he's up to game shape? ;)

That's already been taken care of. He is now skating around, taking everyone's pucks.

Best I can tell, it could have happened at practice and involved Boynton. However, there is some speculation and denial, too.

The term being used is "lower body."

From Chuck Gormley:

Quote:

Chris Pronger (bruised hand) and Blair Betts (lacerated ring finger) are expected to return to the lineup tomorrow against the Maple Leafs. James van Riemsdyk (groin) practiced today, but not on a regular line.

Dan Carcillo (illness) did not practice for the second straight day and will sit out tomorrow night. In all likelihood JVR will also sit out against Toronto, allowing Nik Zherdev to play his second straight game.

Zherdev skated on a line with Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux today.
Thursday afternoon update:

http://phillysportsdaily.com/flyers/...en-by-flu-bug/

Quote:

WELLS FARGO CENTER – Speaking Wednesday afternoon at the Flyers practice facility, Scott Hartnell continued the familiar refrain – unprompted – that, “knock on wood” this team has been pretty healthy all season. He was talking about injuries, but healthy isn’t exactly how you’d describe the Flyers right now.

They’ve been stricken with the flu this week, as Dan Carcillo, Jeff Carter and Darroll Powe are all sick and will all miss Thursday night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Asked if he was worried about the flu bug, coach Peter Laviolette quipped: “I’ll be all right. Oh. Not me, the players.”

“I think it’s part of the season and the wear and tear of what goes on,” he said, “and there’s not a lot you can do about it. So it is what it is.”

Even with flu shots being the norm, hockey players often spend winter months battling the illness, which can spread quickly – especially in a locker room. Jody Shelley missed the first game out the All-Star break with the flu.

“Sometimes you need to get sick to remember how good you feel the rest of the time,” he said shortly after recovering.

Boynton mashed him in practice, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Some of the beat writers are saying it wasnt Boyton (because Homer said so) but I do find it weird that there was nothing about JVR being hurt or look like he was playing hurt and then Boyton hits him and then all of a sudden he's hurt.

BernieParent 03-02-2011 06:02 PM

Speaking of Boynton, tomorrow's game would seem like a good opportunity to give someone like Timonen, Carle or Cobourne an extra day off.

You can't really hurt someone's groin with a big hit.

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves around here.

IceHot 03-03-2011 07:32 PM

What the hell?

Do the Flyers trainers know anything about vitamins for the immune system, cold remedies, flu shots, and prescribed flu remedies?
Cold Eeze and Zican cold remedy should be a requirement in all their medicine cabinets along with prescribed flu remedies.

Black Ice 03-03-2011 08:16 PM

I read that they do get flu shots but who knows.
Carter must be really sick because he's had the flu in previous seasons but still played.

IceHot 03-03-2011 09:26 PM

Well there's a real nasty late season flu going around.
The person who gave it to me was sick for 2 weeks, I was sick for only 3-4 days with the remedies and could have been active for 3 of those 4 days. The products work and the team should educate and prepare their players and staff, because this happens to often every year.
