Weiss could go to the Leafs per Mckenzie

Just watched Bob Mckenzie on NHL on the fly tonight, and he said that the Maple Leafs are indeed looking at Stephen Weiss from the Florida Panthers, and can actually be the front runner to get his services if dealt...

Didnt get into specifics as to who would be dealt to land Weiss, what do you guys think it would take to bring Kessel his center???

The Fuhr* 02-25-2011 09:44 PM

misleading title

Snipeshow 02-25-2011 09:44 PM

Holy misleading..

AmericanDream 02-25-2011 09:44 PM

Bobby also stated that the Leafs have cooled off talks with Colorado for Joh Michael Liles, as the price being asked for for Liles is too steep right now...

So much for Dreger and his 2nd round pick nonsense... It is going to take more then a 2nd round pick to land Liles folks...

blasted_Sabre 02-25-2011 09:45 PM

Holy heart attack batman. I almost had one.

Porn* 02-25-2011 09:46 PM

very misleading...

he better not cost too much... I don't see him as being a solution for the long term. I'd like someone with size as a #1 C ala Kopitar...

Finlandia WOAT 02-25-2011 09:46 PM

If they don't want to pay for Liles, why would they pay for Weiss?

He isn't going to be traded unless it is amazing overpayment.

Please no.

Definitely a misleading title.

As for Weiss, I don't want to give up significant assets for a guy who isn't capable of being a top line center on a top team. I think he would be best suited to join a team that already has a top line center and needs to bolster their second unit (Washington).

how is one related to the other?

who knows what Florida is asking for Weiss, and the price on Liles is probably high because of the market value for other PMD's....Weiss is the better player between the two, so maybe Burke can stomach giving up those assets for Weiss over Liles.

Dark Knight 02-25-2011 09:52 PM

I'd like him.

:)

Andrew Knoll 02-25-2011 09:53 PM

Dreger said yesterday Weiss is way down on Florida's line of players to move. If there is a good deal for him, I say do it, they need total turnover there and it's not like he has some untapped point-per-game potential. They are pathetic up the middle without him but they are almost there with him so who cares?

The thinking there is that they will have to be overwhelmed though, he's a solid player who is not itching to leave despite a bad situation and they need him to log lots of important minutes still.

Boooooth10 02-25-2011 09:53 PM

Unless it's for a massive overpayment he isn't going anywhere. Tallon even said so himself.

I'd prefer weiss over Liles any day of the week... then fetch a UFA dman during the offseason. as for weiss... not ideal, but if we add some size to the wings... a 1-2 punch of weiss and grabo could potentially work... all depends no the wing.

That's good, because I don't want him for anything more than a massive underpayment.

And that is where Burke should stop being interested.

Yes, the Leafs need a center, but it doesn't mean they should settle for someone like Weiss. There are a lot of things to like about him, but really, is he much better than Grabovski?

oh Lord, not another "Dreger said" post.

Dreger is garbage, dude is wrong much more then right.

The only man worth listening to as an "insider" is Bob Mckenzie, and when the man says Toronto is in talks with Florida for Weiss, I am going to believe that Weiss is on the table and close to being moved. Bobby Mac doesnt waste time with nonsense.

Come Monday I think Toronto gets Stephen Weiss from the Panthers, and Tallon gets a 2011 1st, 2011 2nd, and Kadri....maybe???? Just an idea, not sure what to offer, but I would imagine Tallon wanting a 1st and Kadri without a doubt.. That is a lot to part ways with for Weiss, but it could be worth it for the Leafs to get him if they continue to win and get close to the playoffs..

Pretty much. Good player, but not really what we need.

mcphllp 02-25-2011 10:01 PM

id rather wait. he's good but isnt a true 1st line centre.

what happens when he leave florida? does he go the way of jokinen and jaybo?

the next matt stajan?

jumptheshark 02-25-2011 10:02 PM

I wouldn't touch Kadri for Weiss straight up.
