Edm - Nyr

NYR:

Hemsky
Omark
Smid
2nd (2011)

EDM:

M. Staal

I know Staal likely won't get traded but is that enough for him from an NYR perspective? Would you prefer Penner and Brule instead of Hemsky?

MPStoEberletoHall 02-26-2011 11:29 AM

No from Edm

It's basically what I would pay for Bogosian and Staal = Bogosian IMO.

Brendan Shanahan 02-26-2011 11:32 AM

Value is not even close for Marc Staal.

SaskOil* 02-26-2011 11:33 AM

Edmonton says no on the overpayment.

Hampe 02-26-2011 11:35 AM

Massive overpayment from Edmonton.

Gobo 02-26-2011 11:37 AM

Anyone wanna say why it's an overpayment?

Hemsky is great but also we always have to worry about injuries. Smid is at best a #4, should be a #5 though, and Omark is god-awful defensively. Staal is already probably a #2, and is the shutdown presence we need on the defensive end.

He's already a #1.

People need to stop looking at stats to determine where a Dman should be slotted. Staal is already a #1 shutdown Dman.

Why would we trade a 27yr point per game player(Close if not there). Smid, who is only 25, and could very well end up being a great shut down defenceman. Omark who is just 24, and who is still translating to the NHL. He has 16 points in 31 games playing third line minutes. That 2nd round pick will be pretty much like a late 1st. You can still draft great players at #31 in the draft.

Zubrus Coffee Maker 02-26-2011 11:48 AM

why do the Rangers do this? they give up the best player in the deal, who happens to be their young #1 D-man for some complimentary pieces that are not needed.

youre nuts

Staal is better than anyone on the ducks roster defensively
and its not even close

Mr Forever 02-26-2011 12:05 PM

How is this an overpayment by the Oilers? We're trading mostly quantity for some great quality. I'm an Oilers fan and I see sooo much potential in Marc Staal, much more so than Zach Bogosian. Trading Hemsky as the centrepiece is quite obvious, seeing as he's our most valuable asset right now. Smid and Omark are young filler players who can be replaced by the prospects we have in our system, (Plante, Hamilton, Pitlick etc). The 2nd, well, it's a late 1st rounder, don't like giving those up, but Stall isn't old. This would actually be a really good trade for the Oilers. Not really sure on New York's part, because I don't really follow the team too closely, somebody could correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems like a very doable deal.

He's at Seabrook's level, so I guess a 1A where he can be a #1 but is a #2 on good defensive teams. He will be a #1 very soon though.

But how's the deal looking from an NYR perspective?

the answer is because they dont know their rear end from a hole in the ground

did anyone see what 35 year old Pronger got in trade? and idiots think Staal is going for this? im an Islander fan, certainly no love lost there, but a 23 year old future Norris winner, gets this kind of package at least and Id say more because Hemsky is a rental and Omark may be in Europe tomorrow for all we know

Staal is already well above Seabrook's level. Get real, this proposal sucks.

thalegion 02-26-2011 12:31 PM

I really like Staal, but holy stromboli is that an overpay, regardless of the fact that I am not high on Omark.

A very good example of irony...

That being said, NYR aren't interested, their entire blue line rests on this guy.

thefifagod 02-26-2011 12:34 PM

Replace Omark with MPS or Eberle and Sather doesn't hang up on you. But odds are, the Rangers still say no because Staal carries their defense.

yeah a number 1 dman and a struggling TWD who has been benched half the year. :shakehead

zeus3007* 02-26-2011 12:37 PM

Overpayment? Perhaps, but to get a star defenseman like Staal, I would do it. The Rangers won't move him though. And to the poster who said Bogosian = Staal, not even close. Bogosian could be a number one someday, Staal is a young number one d-man. I would give this package for Staal, but for Bogosian, no. Maybe if Bergfors was coming back too.

From Edmonton's perspective, that is giving up the most important player on their team and three key pieces for Staal. From Edmontons point of view its an overpayment. From the Rags, its not an overpayment and not enough. And perhaps the bolded should be directed at yourself, Hemsky is not a rental by any means.

free0717 02-26-2011 01:06 PM

No. Marc Staal is a Rock. An absolute anchor and the Ranger Defense. It would have to be a massive overpayment for the Rangers to trade Staal. He is a core player. Part of the Fabric of this team.

JeffMangum 02-26-2011 01:08 PM

lol.

That is all. We don't want your injury prone winger/defenseman, your glorified shootout specialist and 2nd for our All-Star defenseman.

Dude that's not even remotely close for a deal for Staal.

To pry Staal out of New York, starts with Paajarvi/Eberle + Petry/Marincin ++.

+ what? I would think long and hard about MPS + Petry.
