Brad Richards to Edmonton?

Just heard this on Hockeycentral, the panel mentioned the Rangers and Kings were still on Richards and then Millard said the Oilers were on him too.

First of all, why would he waive his NTC for Edmonton?

Second of all...Edmonton? That came out of left field.

Jaysfanatic* 02-26-2011 05:10 PM

No chance he waives for Edmonton.

Dirty Kari 02-26-2011 05:10 PM

Yeah no way he waives to go to Edmonton. Why would Edmonton want a UFA rental? Makes no sense.

Toydarian 02-26-2011 05:11 PM

There would be no reason what-so-ever for EDM to trade for Richards.

Akonite 02-26-2011 05:12 PM

Gotta love Hockeycentral. Parise wants out, Bogosian wants out and Edmonton in the running for a pending 30 year old UFA who would cost an arm and a leg who probably wouldnt sign here or waive to come here in the first place.

Hall :)

irunthepeg 02-26-2011 05:14 PM

To EDM:

Brad Richards
30 points in the standings

To Dallas:

Taylor Hall

If he agreed to an extension pre-trade, then there would be sense to it for Edmonton.

That said, I can't see how they'd accomplish that without Eberle/MPS going the other way, plus other assets, and I don't get how that makes any sense for what Edmonton is doing.

lol i think you would need more than 30 points going there way. Maybe a guaranteed playoff berth.

I don't think that's what Mallard meant...

What he meant was regarding the rumors of Hemsky/Penner to LA, that LA may still be interest in one of the pair as well as Richards.

No way Richards waives to Edmonton, and it makes no sense for edmonton to aquire him whatsoever.

habspinner 02-26-2011 05:17 PM

Uhhhh....ya...has this person ever been to Edmonton? Not to bash the town because the people are lovely and the city is actually quite nice, but my GOD is it ever cold there.

Don't see how this fits Lowe's 4 to 6 years as Richards will be 35 in 4 years 3 months.

Some how, I don't think that will be a problem for Richards. My guess is there will be a line-up of GM's telling Richards they are willing to pay.

L O L

Richards to the Moon E4

Everybody said the same thing when Pronger went there, lets face it, the team has a rich history, great fanbase, and a wagon full of top prospects that are going to make them contenders within a few (couple??) seasons.

Richards could be that guy that pulls it together for them.

How could Dallas say no to quite possibly the first overall pick, conditional upon him resigning with them? (Not saying this is whats in play.....)

The Oil have enough rookies in the cupboard, time to bring in some established star power to make it all happen.

Homesick 02-26-2011 05:19 PM

Strange things have happened this season, and in the past. Who saw Pronger sign and trade to Edmonton. Richards might see the skill on the wing there already, and like the idea.
But I'm not for it from an Edmonton prospective. 1. Dallas fans will be asking for Hall/ Eberle/Paajarvi. 2. I hope the Oilers dont try to follow the Rangers/Leafs by trying to buy a good team rather than develop it.

Paralyzer008 02-26-2011 05:19 PM

We'll see after the break, apparently Sportsnet has a scenario where both Penner/Hemsky are dealt in the same deal

Yes and hockey is played on ice which thrives in the cold.

dnicks17 02-26-2011 05:21 PM

We'd be pretty close to a play-off team if we added Richards and Larsson.

No, it really makes no sense for Edmonton, regardless of extention.

A nearly-31 year old Richards would be past his prime before Edmonton is ready to contend.

Horcoff's albatross of a contract would also present a major roadblock once the kids' ELCs are up, and there's no way Dallas, or any other team in the league for that matter, takes on that monstrosity.

KingJet* 02-26-2011 05:23 PM

No chance or Point on going to edmonton, he wants to be in the playoffs and Edmonton doesn't need him.

No way I'd make that deal.

Bubba88 02-26-2011 05:26 PM

I think this isn't the badest idea. Depends on the Return.

Gagner + Smid + 1st (12) + 3rd (11)

would be a solid return.

If Richards waives his NTC for EDM, he would resign.
