Eminger or Gilroy

So pretty basic. Now that we have McCabe and MDZ was sent down, who would you rather have out there as our 6th d-man.

I think the obvious for a lot of us is Eminger but I'd like to see what others think. My main reason for choosing Eminger though is since, McCabe is considered and offensive d-man, may as well shore up his partner with a defensive d-man.

My gut tells me Torts will go with Gilroy though.

Revelation 02-27-2011 01:34 AM

Eminger.... PLEASE GOD EMINGER!

(I NEVER, EVER THOUGHT I WOULD SAY THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON)

Inferno 02-27-2011 01:42 AM

id take a twinkie as our 6th defenseman over Gilroy

JeffMangum 02-27-2011 01:46 AM

Eminger for the love of Christ. Guy is solid. Girlroy is....ugh.

Inferno 02-27-2011 01:47 AM

oops, meant to say Gilroy in my previous post.

I'd rather have a traffic cone, because at least a traffic cone will stay at the blueline and get turned inside out instead of not being there at all, like Girlroy thinking he's a forward and forechecking for some reason.

darko 02-27-2011 01:51 AM

Eminger any day of the week.

You're right, forgot the "r".

Puckface NYR* 02-27-2011 02:01 AM

well this isnt overwhelming at all. Maybe we will all have our wish on monday. Gilroy for a 3rd. ;)

Wraparounds 02-27-2011 02:16 AM

Well this is going to be the most lopsided poll over.

I'd rather have a pylon than Gilroy. Ugh he is so infuriating.

Inferno 02-27-2011 02:19 AM

ive never seen an offensive defenseman bring so little offense to the team.

BlueshirtBlitz 02-27-2011 02:21 AM

If anything this should be a HUGE nod to Torts, who continued to play Eminger even when everyone hated him. He really settled down and is good at what he does. Much better defensively than Gilroy and even MDZ.

Anyone voting Gilroy should be banned for a month haha.

Brian Boyle 02-27-2011 02:27 AM

I greatly prefer Eminger, but anyone paying attention to the last 3-4 weeks knows that Gilroy has the inside track with the coaching staff.

n8 02-27-2011 02:34 AM

Eminger at least has shown that at one point in the season he was a capable and steady d-man. And it was a streak of games that had most of the boards turning a new leaf on his play. Like a month? I forget how long it lasted. Not sure what happened that cause his play to regress back to his early season form. Or lack of it. Plus, he has a 1 game goal scoring streak!

mrjimmyg89 02-27-2011 02:35 AM

Eminger AINEC & it's not because he scored last night either.

HockeyBasedNYC 02-27-2011 10:01 AM

I think the full package is pretty even, but Eminger gets the edge because he plays with more snarl.

Despite what a lot of us think, i dont think Gilroy has been that bad. Hes been a little up and down - but the thing with him is - what is he? Hes not adding any offense - so you are asking a lighter guy - a good skater to be a defensive tough guy. Hes just not that. I think hes been good with the puck, but Eminger had a stretch when he was pretty damn good. Eminger was a little banged up but now hes gotta be rested and fresh - he played a hard game with a goal against Washington - it looks like hes ready to compete - embodies this teams attitude a little better too.

Go with Emmy, and Gilly will sit as a reserve.

Fitzy 02-27-2011 10:02 AM

These are big games down the stretch. The time or experimentation is over, we have to put our best lineup on the ice each game.

Therefore, Eminger.

Swedish Fish 02-27-2011 10:07 AM

Eminger all day

id rather have Dale Purinton on the ice, at least he would provide excitement for the fans instead of a heart attack.. i hope Eminger is resigned and Gilroy is walking over the summer

that about sums it up for me. even if he still played defense like a traffic cone, if he had 30 points i could deal with it.... 10 pts in 50 games.....no thanks

ltrangerfan 02-27-2011 10:28 AM

Offensive statistics?

Gilroy 10 points 47 games

MDZ 11 points 47 games - The real offensive defenseman

EMMS 5 points 51 games.

Not a whole lot of production anywhere.

Overall- I believe Gilroy plays. Emms was benched for a number of games when Gilroy played so I believe he has the nod.

Defensively, Gilroy has somewhat less skill but his positioning / judgement has been above average. I'm not valuing Gilroy that high but I believe he is the best of a bad lot.

pld459666 02-27-2011 10:41 AM

A blindfolded Stevie Wonder (just to be sure) over Gilroy as our 6th guy

Jxmarts 02-28-2011 03:12 AM

I haven't watched that many games this year. But I guess I put more stock in +/- ratings than most people.

Can someone explain why Gilroy is +5 and Eminger is -7, if Eminger is so much better? They both play the role of 6th D-man, so it probably isn't that one is covering the top lines & the other isn't.
