Klesla traded to Phoenix for Upshall and Lepisto

http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2011/02...sto_upsh.shtml

TO CBJ: Upshall & Lespito
TO PHX: Klesla & Byers

Bye Klesla, good luck.

Good trade for the CBJ??? You think Huselius is on the move now too with Upshall coming in??

blujakx 02-28-2011 12:00 PM

bye rusty

CBJSprague24 02-28-2011 12:01 PM

Very interesting. If nothing else, now the CBJ has the only two "U" players in the NHL!

And it's another NHL 08 trade prophecy come true. Nathan Paetsch last year, now Upshall in NHL 08...had to throw him in to pick up RJ Umberger. Now if only we could get Alfredsson...

Good luck, Rusty. Thanks for the ride, try to stay healthy.

sorry klesla, but your time had come....almost 0 development in 10 years, you still look as confused as your first season. like the return, we lose the bad klesla contract (wow he makes 3 mil), and I'm pretty sure we're not done

Viqsi 02-28-2011 12:02 PM

Goddamnit, I didn't want to see Klesla traded.

Great return for him, but still.

BJFan1 02-28-2011 12:02 PM

Anyone know what the contracts look like for Upshall and Lepisto??? How many years left and cost???

Timeless Winter 02-28-2011 12:03 PM

Good trade, I like Lepisto, he does have some puck moving ability. It's a nice deal.

Upshall is a UFA after this year.
Lepisto is an RFA after this year, if anyone was wondering.

CBJSprague24 02-28-2011 12:03 PM

We got two players an oft-injured defenseman. This after an oft-injured goalie was dealt to Ottawa for Vermette.

How does GMSH do it?

Yeah, because he did absolutely nothing for us in the playoffs.

OH WAIT

We just lost the last original Blue Jacket, who was starting to really play hard. Granted, the injuries were beginning to make him look Leclaire-esque, but that's no reason to be a blind hater.

1857 Howitzer 02-28-2011 12:04 PM

Sad to see the last original Jacket gone, but theses two guys should really help this team and it seems to be a real good deal.

What is both of their contract status?

Shopcat 02-28-2011 12:04 PM

I LOVE THIS:handclap:

CBJSprague24 02-28-2011 12:04 PM

Might want to add to the OP that AHLer Dane Byers is part of the deal.

To PHX: Klesla, Byers
To CBJ: Lepisto, Upshall

blahblah 02-28-2011 12:05 PM

Freed up cap space for next year, if they don't want to re-sign, and got two useful players.

Works for me.

Lepisto is kind of interesting, looking forward to seeing him in action.

RDriesenUD 02-28-2011 12:07 PM

I think this is a very good deal for us. I am very happy with this trade.

We just got 2 players that can help us for a player who gets hurt a lot and, IMO, wasn't going to be a part of our future.

:handclap: :yo:

Mossy 02-28-2011 12:07 PM

Sad to see Upshall go, really dislike this trade. Hope you guys enjoy him.

jetbluejackets 02-28-2011 12:08 PM

:sarcasm:

This.

Freed up a bad contract (IMO) in Klesla. Phoenix can eat his 3+ Million for 3 more years.

Upshall provides some scoring up front

Lepisto - not bad. He may not average a ton of pts, but he seems to be a decent younger d-man who has the ability to move the puck.

This still leaves us with 8 Roster D-men.

Bye Rusty, I will honestly miss that dude.

MattTheMask 02-28-2011 12:11 PM

I was never a big fan of Klesla. Will be interesting to see if this sets up more moves, and how it shapes them. So far I like it.

Upshall will be a UFA. Lepisto a RFA.

76% of votes so far, say Columbus won trade. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=355845

I think he will fit right in, day one. I am surprised this deal went down to be honest.

Agreed - I like this trade. Thanks for everything Rusty, but I believe it was time to move on. Rusty's injury history just keeps getting longer and there was too much cap space dedicated to him over the next few years.

Side note - I lived in Halifax during the World Juniors there in 2002-3 and went to every game in the tourney. Scottie Upshall was captain of Team Canada that year, so we kind of added another former Captain...

(Yes, I know the World Juniors doesn't really count, but thought I'd point it out anyways)

joshjoshjosh 02-28-2011 12:12 PM

Upshall makes $2,250,000 this year
Lepisto $800,000

Prorate it yourselves damnit.

BlueJackets66 02-28-2011 12:13 PM

not happy need mature PMD

DangleOH91 02-28-2011 12:14 PM

I'm really interested in seeing what Lepisto can do. Upshall is a good pick up, but is a UFA. I know nothing about lepisto. Where does he fit in for us? Also I'm happy we got rid of Klesla's contract.

he may have played well in 4 career playoff games, but that does not make me forget 10 years of his bonehead passes, missed D assignments, ill-timed icings, and was hurt almost as much as he played the last 4 years, not to mention that he makes 3M per season that would be better spent on an upgrade.

you call me a blind hater, I call you a blind lover.....we agree to disagree about Klesla
