Without a capable backup its all Henrik down the stretch. This team gets chances but just cant seem to finish. After that loss to Buffalo last night our playoff chances were reduced immensely. I still think we make it but its going to be a dog fight. Players need to step up and Henrik has to steal a few games for us down the way. We need to get better at home as well which has been a problem for us not only this year but last year too.

DMPD 03-02-2011 12:38 PM

Voted 75% up until now.

silverfish 03-02-2011 12:39 PM

I'm confident in some bounces to start going our way, some guys to get over their slumps, and for Hank to carry the **** out of this team.

Fitzy 03-02-2011 12:43 PM

I found myself this pessimistic last season, and turned out to be right.

I think we finish 9th. Prove me wrong, Rangers.

Shadowtron 03-02-2011 12:45 PM

I still think 8th or 9th place finish for them. I think it's 50/50.

DubiDubiDoo 03-02-2011 12:45 PM

I have close to no faith in a plaoff spot. That doesn't mean I'm dissatisfied with the team though. It's a good young group that desperately needs some scoring it can depend on. The goaltending is solid, thje defense is coming along nicely, the young forwards are promising, and even the ones who dont score much are hard workers. Not to much to complain about other than top line scoring.

92hatchattack 03-02-2011 12:47 PM

No. This entire season has been these guys building up our hopes just to let us down. Can see them loosing the playoff spot in a shoot out loss on the last game of the season just like last year. It's just the way it's been for us again this year.

If we do make it though I can see them turning it on and making things interesting though. I am hoping the surprise me.

KotsyJr 03-02-2011 12:52 PM

9th place here we come

GregNYR19 03-02-2011 12:54 PM

the good news is according to nhl live both staal and gaborik are skating today

Barbara Underhill 03-02-2011 12:59 PM

Unlikely in my eyes.

Not just being pessimistic either I really don't think they can overcome the hurdles they have been presented. They are wearing down, Henke has to start the rest of the games and will be worn out if they do make the post season... Gaborik will most likely be a shell of himself when he comes back, a shell of a shell of himself?

I honestly think this team is leaning on excuses way to hard, the injuries, the refs, the bad bounces... Play through it, battle harder make your own bounces.

Fataldogg 03-02-2011 01:02 PM

They're in it right now so it is possible. Flip a coin and those are their chances. 50/50.

If Lundqvist cannot play lights out, Staal doesn't return soon and we miss Gaborik for the remainder of the year then we won't make it. I think there is probably a better chance that we don't make it then we do. I have a gut feeling we miss the playoffs by 2-4 points.

JohnnyRanger 03-02-2011 01:11 PM

I voted no, they just dont have what it takes, and have been sliding ever so badly recently.

in there last 20 games.
12 loses
3 regulation wins (7-0 vs. Leafs, 5-3 vs Pit, and 6-0 vs Was)
4 shootout wins
1 shootout lose.

there's no shootout in the playoffs, and the teams they have won against in there last 20 have been beaten up with injuries that i wouldn't even call it a win. its sad to say but i don't see them making a spot if this play keeps up

Jersey Girl 03-02-2011 01:12 PM

I think they miss, but if that happens I don't think it's the worst thing in the world. I would prefer it not to happen with yet another February/March swoon, however...this is becoming their trademark to some extent.

I would like to be proven wrong, as I think playoff experience would be a good thing for the youngins, but thank goodness Sather didn't sacrifice much for a rental.

Either way, the entire organization needsto alter their goal from making the playoffs to winning the Stanley Cup.

WhipNash27 03-02-2011 01:15 PM

We better either make it or fail miserably. I hate 9th place.

Loffen 03-02-2011 01:54 PM

With the way we're playing right now, beating ourselves by giving up that goal we can't answer to and missing on wide open nets... meh.

It's a shame to see a good season turn into such garbage during the last 30 days.

BlueshirtBlitz 03-02-2011 02:00 PM

We're still right in the thick of things. By the way this board reacts sometimes you'd think we were Ottawa (I'm guilty of this too sometimes ).

HockeyBasedNYC 03-02-2011 02:03 PM

According to Rodent theres a 55% chance and we now have a lower chance than Carolina and Buffalo...

Makes sense... their games in hand would push them over us.

Don't like that, because just as quickly as this slump came it can go away. Statistics like that can't grasp hockey, IMO. :yo:

terrrrrible 03-02-2011 02:09 PM

50/50. I don't think they're going to fall THAT hard. May sneak in 8th place but, they'll get there this time.

BlueshirtBlitz 03-02-2011 02:09 PM

Also if we beat every non PO team that gives us 90 points. We HAVE to beat them.

bmw2004 03-02-2011 02:10 PM

Voted for (Most Likely), but really don't care at this point. All hopes for next season, but if not count me an Islander fan.

Loffen 03-02-2011 02:13 PM

I can just see the Isles having their way with us... Yeah it's gotten that bad.

StaalWars 03-02-2011 02:13 PM

I just don't see us getting the scoring we're going to need down the stretch.

Vitto79 03-02-2011 02:20 PM

ugh its 50/50, the games lost to Montreal and Carolina drive me nuts. Its like when the Mets had a big lead on the Phillies and kept losing to them head to head just screwing them over. They blew it 2 yrs in a row on the last day and the Rangers did it last yr..............just afraid it's going to happen again

The good thing is if they get 8 or 9th next yrs team should improve. Especially if they can indeed get a #1 C/ PP QB in Brad Richards. That and just staying healthy

last yr Gaborik was the whole team with Henrik. This yr they work hard and battle each and every game. They have gotten better regardless of them getting 7/8 or 9th
