Ales Hemsky

Hemsky was slated to have an MRI on his shoulder Wednesday, 630 CHED's Dan Tencer reports.
Let's hope it's not long-term

Joey Moss 03-02-2011 04:56 PM

Seriously?

Was this from a previous injury or did he re-injure it?

Well he got rocked yesterday and then slashed a few times etc...

Who knows, just not suprised.

OilerOlli* 03-02-2011 04:58 PM

We passed the best moment ever to trade Hemsky.
Something like that had to come.
Let's hope it is not serious and his injuries doesn't get to an absurde number with the times go on.

Everest 03-02-2011 05:01 PM

Lets sign this great player to a long term injury.....er....I mean....contract!

TaylorHallFan* 03-02-2011 05:04 PM

1234.

Digger12 03-02-2011 05:05 PM

At this point in his career, I swear Hemsky's shoulder must be held together with duct tape and prayer.

If he goes down again, this really will turn into another Death March to close out the season.

jbean 03-02-2011 05:17 PM

Maybe Hemsky's value will go down because of his injury issues. Then again, there will always be some team willing to make a risky overpayment.

czar99 03-02-2011 05:18 PM

Well it only took 'till post 5.

Edit: I bet he's in the line up Thursday.

Eytinge 03-02-2011 05:41 PM

Holy over reaction batman!

Calm down people, I bet its nothing major.

Seedling 03-02-2011 05:46 PM

You mean Gaborik. Havlat hasn't been missing as many games to injury since coming to the wild.

From EJ:

EDMONTON - Whether or not winger Ales Hemsky is going to slide back into the Edmonton Oilers lineup for Thursday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets will hinge on the results of an MRI.

Walloped by Nashville Predators defenceman Jonathon Blum late in the third period of Wednesday’s 2-1 overtime win, Hemsky left the game with a right shoulder injury.

He did play another couple of shifts but wound up leaving the game before the end of regulation.

“It’s more precautionary than anything else,” said head coach Tom Renney of the exam. “It’s one of those things where you want to give the athlete peace of mind and also to educate and inform ourselves.”

Last season, Hemsky’s underwent season-ending shoulder surgery to repair his left shoulder.

Pre-Wild Havlat. Injured for years, but yeah, Gaborik or Demitra will do.

Wheatking 03-02-2011 06:49 PM

It's kind of funny that it was Blum of all people. I wonder if there were any truth to those rumors.

vb 03-02-2011 06:55 PM

Funny that it's a shoulder injury. Looked like blum had hit him in the upper leg. Must have been contact with the ice that hurt him.

HopelessOilFan 03-02-2011 07:08 PM

I'm just happy its not another concussion

Beerfish 03-02-2011 07:09 PM

Be prepared for lots of 'Hall, Eberle, Omark, Paajarvi' injuries over the years. They too like Hemsky are skilled players that will get in harms way to make a play. They to will get hit and hurt because not one team in this league has the least bit of hesitation in hammering the living hell out of our skilled players.

Other teams tough guys can slam our skilled players.
Other teams rats and agitators can slam our skilled players.
Other teams, small, skilled players can slam our skilled players.

All without any fear or retribution or retaliation.

We can then all bemoan our 'bad luck' about all our top players getting hurt.

Who exactly is protecting the smallest and oldest team, the Detroit Red Wings? Nice logic there.

One of the worst pp's in the league for years vs one of the best. Detroit has also had their share of injuries. Hey if you are happy with letting other teams bash the crap out of our skilled players constantly more power to you. I'm not and oilers shouldn't.

exactly... a good PP is miles and miles better than all the intimidation and tough guys in the world, as far as stopping the opposing team from taking liberties against your team

intimidation and toughness play other roles, but they certainly don't protect your skill players from punishment... that hasn't happened since the instigator penalty was introduced and players can't police themselves anymore

This. Managing what to do with Hemksy from the trade deadline to the beginning of next season will be Steve's defining moment.

Unfortunately, I think he'll decide to sign him long term to an overpriced contract.
