A message for Mr Giroux...

...SHOOT for christ's sake!!!

Terence Peterman 03-05-2011 06:10 PM

We really need a thread about Claude Giroux's renowned pass-first attitude?

OriginJM 03-05-2011 06:12 PM

Wow, thanks for posting this. Makes me think.

so you're one of those people at the games 'eh?

It's a gateway to a discussion, or at least it was supposed to be.

Obviously he passes like a demon, but the kid's got 20 goals without even shooting all that often. I'd like to see him rip one every now and then but he always seems to be going for the pass.

Mgkibbles 03-05-2011 06:34 PM

Giroux actually has a decent shot, shame he doesn't use it more.

How many of his goals are off of wristers though? He dekes and smacks goals home from in close, or gets empty netters. He's an efficient shooter. I have a feeling if he shot a lot more than he does, he wouldn't score that many more goals.

Giroux has two options as seen by defenders; pass back to the point, or pass down to the goal below the goal line. Not that hard to defend

Teams are palying the pass all the way with him in 2 on 1's. He passed off on 2 of the Flyers best chances all day. He knew he should have shot one of them because he came back with a big slapshot one timer right after.

Ex Storm 03-05-2011 10:14 PM

Richards shoots too much, Giroux passes too much.

Jesus.

Next thread:

Carter skates too much.

ShawnTHW 03-05-2011 10:18 PM

It worked for Crosby....

Beef Invictus 03-05-2011 10:23 PM

Giroux passes too much, and Carter shoots too much. No wonder they're on the same line :sarcasm:

LEIFey 03-05-2011 10:55 PM

Agreed. He has a nose for the net, but for some reason would rather be the passer. I think he's just trying to be selfless, but sheesh, sometimes you need to be selfish.

flyersfan018 03-05-2011 11:05 PM

Giroux is first on the team in shooting %.(Versteeg has had a higher % since he's been here)

Shoot the damn puck!

GoneFullHextall 03-06-2011 01:31 AM

we need more threads like this.
pointless, needless crap.

GKJ 03-06-2011 01:39 AM

Giroux talked about being more selfish earlier in the season. His first instinct is always to pass though, and he's been playing a lot with Carter. Might be a product of the ridiculous success he had shooting early in the season that he has less confidence in his shot.

GoneFullHextall 03-06-2011 01:43 AM

Just think. He shoots more. misses the net more then what do you have? people whining about that.

Protest 03-06-2011 08:51 AM

He doesn't need to shoot more, as in just firing the puck from all over like Carter, but he does need to think shot first when he is in a prime shooting location, and so does Leino. Seriuosly, how often do they work and dangle they're way into the slot and then pass it to someone who is at a far worse angle then they are?

Spongolium* 03-06-2011 08:52 AM

It's a very valid point. Giroux could have a good deal more goals on the 2 on 1's that he has in the game. He usually has at least 1 of them a game. If he scores on just 15% of them, he's bagging another 6-8 goals a season

RIPRichardsCarter 03-06-2011 09:37 AM

If Giroux had shot and missed this thread would be called "Why doesn't Giroux pass more?"

Bob Clarke Fan Club 03-06-2011 09:41 AM

Why do some posters get so up in arms when another poster criticizes a player? Bob Clarke mentioned this earlier in the year. It's a legit thread because Giroux does have to stop passing up shots when he's in a great position to shoot. It's not a knock on his shooting ability or his play making ability, can't score if you don't shoot.

Missed this, but it's bang on.

I'm assuming this thread came from yesterdays game after Giroux passed on a 2 on 1.
