2011 NHL Entry Draft/Other Prospects (All NON-RANGERS Prospect Discussion - Part 2)

First 1 in nearing 1000.

So what would your list of realistic 1st rounders look like?

Mine:

Khocklachev
Musil
Zibanejad

Reaches:

One of Strome/Huberdeau/Hamilton if we move up.

TrollololBoyle 03-07-2011 06:02 PM

My top 3 in order
Khokhlachev
Zibanejad
Phillips

The rest
Puempel
Jenner (Thomas' teammate)
Huberdeau (big reach)

Late round/2nd round guys
Rask
Jurco

Not digging this year's DMen except for Murphy and Larsson, both who won't be around by our pick.

HatTrick Swayze 03-07-2011 06:06 PM

If possible trade up for Strome/Huberdeau/Murphy.

Otherwise:
1. Puempel
2. Armia
3. Biggs

Others:
1. Zibanejad
2. McNeill
3. Scheifele

JeffMangum 03-07-2011 06:11 PM

Armia is a guy I would want. He's raw, but the potential is definitely there.

Brendan Shanahan 03-07-2011 06:13 PM

Sorry if it's been answered, but how has Rask moved from a top-5 projection last year to a late 1st/early 2nd projection this year?

He's not winning enough, and he ran out of Tiger blood. But seriously...

bad U18, he sort of hit a plateau, apparently he has 'attitude problems... I'm not really sure.

He's like this year's Kabanov.

I think he's projected to go right around where we'll be picking...early to mid teens.

I'd think about trading up to take a gamble on Grimaldi at the start of the 2nd.

Wow. I really believe if an organization other than the Isles drafted Kabanov, he'd be a top liner one day. I'd take Rask if he's available in the 2nd. Heck we have two 2nds!

Interesting to see how the talk or Rask has cooled off. Seems like it wasn't all THAT long ago that people were speculating that he "might" be available when we pick.

BlueshirtBlitz 03-07-2011 07:01 PM

Grab Rask with a second and run away with it if you can.

Worst case scenario he has an attitude problem and somebody takes a chance on him because they think a change of scenery will do him well.

Ih8theislanders 03-07-2011 07:43 PM

Armia/Puempel/Grimaldi

Do not want.

I wouldn't worry about drafting him. Gordie Clark wants to draft Canadians in the first round. I like grimaldi and biggs.

Well I said he wanted to, which he confirmed himself.... Of course that was almost 4 years ago, and the pick was too good to take up. I think he was projected to go fourth, and we were drafting in the 17 slot. It also explains why we passed on Tarasenko.

Just wanted to let everyone know I will be heading over to Union College Friday to get another first-hand look at Kincaid and the Dutchmen as they face off against Colgate. I'm excited to continue to see him.

You might not have to see him concede a single goal.

I don't mean to downplay Colgate's miracle playoff series win, but this was a club that didnt have a single league win until the last 2 weeks of the season.

Yeah I know :(

I'm just hoping for a good game. My seats are down in the Union end(They defend there twice) so I should be able to get another good look at him.

I was extremely surprised Colgate beat RPI. Talk about disappointing for the Engineers.

Well Yale is the #1 seed in the ECAC and right up there in the NCAA, and a lot of that team is Kinkaid.

Take a look at Daniel Carr too, if you would.

Absolutely will do. Hope for a good solid game. No blowouts or anything.

This kid have the Henke smile and facial mannerisms or what? :D

Joachim Nermark, 6'1 190 Center. Top scorer at the Ivan Hlinka tournament.

C & B: Finally, most of our readers haven't had a chance to see you play. Could you describe your style of play and tell us about any player you model your style of play after?

Nermark: I don't try to model my game after a specific player, I play the game my way. But my role model since I was a kid has been Henrik Zetterberg. He's calm, cool, skilled and has a way of bringing out the best of his teammates.

I'm a good skater and a skilled player. People who know me says that I still play well when I'm not on my game. I'm a hard worker that truly wants to win. I like a high-paced style of play and playing with smart hockey players

Blue, any idea where he may go? 2nd rounder?

Fitzy 03-09-2011 09:24 AM

Whoops, meant Union. Got me head in this weekend's series already.

For the record, Brown's senior captain was snatched up by the Flyers.

Yeah I was going to say. Union is real high up there even though Yale was ranked higher then them earlier in the season.

Do you see RPI having any chance of making the tournament with their loss to Colgate? Would be great for hockey in the area for both RPI and Union to move on.

I don't think so.

There are 16 teams each year, 6 of which are the winners from Hockey East, ECAC, Atlantic, WCHA, CCHA, CHA, and 10 others. RPI isn't in the top 20 rankings on USHL, and their early elimination pretty much kills their chances. The top teams like Yale and Union would likely still qualify with an early upset exit, but not a non-bye team like RPI.

The area will have to put its stocks into Union. I'd absolutely love for an ECAC team to somehow win the national championship this year.
