Salute to Rico

The Good -

- Saluting Martin's banner at the end of the game
- Offense carries the day when they needed it
- Connolly with a pretty good game
- Sekera again beastly
- Vanek carrying the offense on his line
- Pominville with a couple helpers and going to the net
- Getting Hecht back for a game
- Ennis and Gerbe formed Mini-tron yet again. Three goals between 'em.
- Web with three assists? Seriously.

The Bad -

- Some of those Enroth gave up were holy-crap weak. But he won. Miller gets a day off and they won with the backup in. Good.
- Hecht hurt again. Broken Jochen. Crap.
- Butler playing stick-mean was cool... but not right in front of the ref.

The Ugly -

- Terry Pegula needs to check the bill of sale on his purchase because Jason Spezza continues to own the Sabres.

fing0rz 03-13-2011 07:42 PM

g: coming off a 7 game road trip and winning the 2nd game of a back to back on little rest

Taro Tsujimoto 03-13-2011 07:43 PM

Good-

Ennis had a great game.
Connolly was pretty good.
The tributes to Rico were classy.

Bad-

A couple of weak goals on Enroth
Martin's death

Ugly-

Daniel Alfredsson
Jason Spezza
Chris Neil

Chainshot 03-13-2011 07:46 PM

I thought Butler-Myers was pretty good and Myers has been a tank defensively again. I'm still not keen on the third pairing though. Sekera-Leopold was pretty good.

I mentioned in the GDT too -- over 1/9th of all of Spezza's career goals have come against us. That's sad.

Kruschiki 03-13-2011 07:47 PM

Uh Boyes people? My #1 star.

Tim Murray 03-13-2011 07:49 PM

Missed most the game. What happened to Hecht?

ct2111 03-13-2011 07:49 PM

Good
- Sekera and Myers were excellent in rushing the puck
- Leopold and Butler played solid
- Ennis made things happen...
- ...and got Connolly going. Best game in a while.
- Offense in general
- Won a must-win game

Bad
- Not scoring 7
- Vanek buried on a line with Mancari...
- ...who plays less physical than any of our so-called "midgets".
- Enroth was pretty bad
- Defensive effort for the first two periods
- Paying Morrisonn $2m for next year

Ugly
- Hecht injury

Holy crap!!!

Good:
- I'm reallly likin Ennis out there. He made some mistakes earlier in the year but man, he's got 30G 45A season written all over him in his future. Very skilled.
- Honoring Martin
- Enroth with a regulation win
- Winning end of a back to back, 5Pm start
- 4 points up on Carolina. Man Tuesday is a huge huge game
- Myers. Both Tylers are going to be the backbone of this team for yearss

Bad:
- Enroth with a couple weak ones
- ????

Lindy talking about how the goal by Gerbe was Martin-esque.

I thought the same thing when he scored.

Chainshot 03-13-2011 08:00 PM

And Monty was a healthy scratch -- "Good on the offensive side, tough on the defensive side... not an easy decision to make"

At this point I'm getting the feeling that Lindy is just rotating the bottom 4-5 guys on defense to keep them fresh with how brutal the schedule is to close the year...

That's both cool and incredibly sad.

Good game by a tired team. Enroth came close to blowing it a couple of times. He was brutal, the third goal being total bush league. Should end any discussion from people who think you can trade Miller. It's always been an absurd proposition based on what we have behind him. But I'm happy to give Enroth a try as backup next year. One bad game doesn't throw me off the kid.
Boyes continues to play well. Even the Ottawa commentators (I was forced to listen on Centre Ice) called him the best deadline acquisition.
BTW are the Sabres really the third best even strength team in the league? Really? Sens guys said that.

Agreed. I would expect Morrisonn out in the next game to be honest.

I was at Saturday's game and Monty just looked slow. My buddy and I were wondering whether he was hurt. Sked may be catching up with him. Sabres have played a ton of hockey. I don't mind rotating through all seven guys. Gives them an extra day off. Myers is the only one who hasn't sat in awhile.

Duddy 03-13-2011 08:10 PM

The Sens haven't won a game when trailing after 2.

Afino 03-13-2011 08:10 PM

Keep doing it for #7.

Endless Ike 03-13-2011 08:23 PM

enroth was brutal...a couple weak goals, and looked like he was fighting the puck all night

I've gotta say, there were some seriously weak goals by both teams.
