Michael Kay To Walk Around The Garden In Ranger Gear Tuesday

Michael Kay lost a bet to Don LaGreca and tomorrow has to walk around the garden in full Rangers gear, helmet, jersey, goalie pads, the whole nine yards.

Anybody who is in attendance tomorrow can you please take pictures :)

Do they make goalie helmets big enough to fit his head?

Kay bet that he wasn't incredibly annoying during Yankees broadcasts.

If you do that, make sure you credit Mike Breen because he said it during Kay's radio show today around 4.

I think it was the football pool....?

I like his show. Kay isnt a hockey guy, but he a lets Don get some hockey in there, and when something cool goes down in the NHL or with the Rangers he does seem legit in his peaked casual interest.

People should embrace this stunt. With any luck we can get him interested in hockey just a little bit more and he will talk about it on the show. Truth is if he even cracks that door Don could talk hockey all day long... how cool would it be to get hockey some decent airtime in mid day...

lol will do....

seriously this should be a good laugh

StaalWars 03-21-2011 09:05 PM

It was hilarious listening to them talk about it on the radio today. LaGreca was loving it, Breen said he's going to try show up after the first period but if he's not able to get there he told LaGreca to make sure and take pictures. LaGreca said he's going to try and get Kay up on the Jumbotron.

Hah I totally didn't steal it from him though, I was in class at 4! It was pretty much the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of Kay.

Ha, no worries, great minds think alike. I'm sure that's what comes to a lot of people's minds when they think of Kay. Personally, it's that annoying commercial they always used to show during the Rangers games: "Oh, hey Michael Kay, NO WAY!"

It's crazy how YES is the superior network over SNY and the Mets broadcasters are wayyyyyyy more entertaining than Kay.

KingWantsCup 03-21-2011 09:43 PM

I'm a Yankees fan and I like Michael Kay, however since I started listening to him on ESPN NY radio I've lost respect for him. Where did he get this senseless hate for hockey, and specifically the Rangers? It really pisses me off because I know they will never talk about hockey because Micahel Kay hates it. Meanwhile if I switch to my Philly sports station for the Eagles, they talk about ALL their teams and love their Flyers. Why do we have to be screwed with such an ignorant talk show host? Great announcer, horrible talk show host IMHO.

Clowe Knows Best 03-21-2011 09:50 PM

It's promoting hockey on ESPN, I will take it all day. Besides, Fatcesa won't talk about on his show.

it was infact the football pool, had Lagreca lost he would have had to go around Yankee Stadium in Yankee gear (Lagreca is a Mets fan)

during the updates when Don comments on hockey Kay tries to throw in a remark like he knows what is going on (he thought how the Rangers saved cap space by burying Redden was lame and shouldn't be allowed... well MR KAY neither should your boring Yankee broadcasts)

On that last Friday of the season Michael Kay had the Rangers open the show though, but it only got 15 minutes while the Yankees went on to get like an hour.....

just imagine if we ever go deep into the playoffs and they are FORCED to talk hockey:naughty:

I feel that Don LaGreca is a sell-out. He is the face of NHLive, but he seems really passive on the Michael Kay show about talking hockey, he doesn't seem to push it far enough. A true hockey fan would keep pushing it and not submit to basketball talk.

Exactly. I lost all respect for Michael with the Lebron James talk, and how he said LeBron ruined his legacy by going to join Dwade in Miami yet he said if Lebron and Dwade united in NY he wouldn't have been ruining his legacy.
Hypocrite.

If Kay was the reason they never talk about hockey than why is it that we cannot find one other radio show on 1050 or 660 that ever mentions hockey? Does Cowherd talk hockey? Francesa? Name me a radio host on NY airwaves that talks hockey regularly.

The unwillingness to talk hockey is hardly a problem centered around Michael Kay. If you haven't noticed, ESPN in general does very little to push hockey. They have no incentive to do that. They aren't in bed with the NHL.

Anyways, like some of us mentioned in another thread a while back, I think we're all better off not having to listen to the mob flooding our radio stations after every Rangers loss.

New York sells out every night and has a very passionate following.
I blame Don LeGraca for not reaching out and trying harder.

Steve Sommers will talk hockey.
Boomer does, he and Carton have that contest shootout coming up soon.

It's Don LaGreca's fault? Lol, he's like the only one who mentions hockey. If more people start calling these shows and ask hockey questions, maybe they will decide on throwing in some hockey.

Man I miss Sommers. I used to work second shift and had to listen to the games on the radio at work. Captain Midnight made my hour hour and 20 minute drive home much more bearable during those years.

He's a professional doing the job he's been hired to do. He does have opportunity to talk 100% hockey at his other gig. He might even appreciate the balance the Kay shows brings his view of sports in general which is is career.

I dont get the sense Kay hates hockey. Unlike the blowhard on WFAN, who does seem to have disdain for hockey

Yeah but when push comes to shove its Michael Kay's show. I wish they talked more about hockey too, but Kay dictates what they talk about and I bet Don has little say in that. He can't start talking about hockey when Kay decides to talk about baseball or basketball because if he did that he'd probably be out of a job pretty quickly.

KreiMeARiver 03-22-2011 08:58 AM

Michael Kay is more ego-maniacal than Francesa, and that's not an easy feat to accomplish.

kennglin13 03-22-2011 09:05 AM

Lot of it has to do with the producers and the guys upstairs, I have a buddy who does the sportscenters for those ESPN.com spinoff sites like ESPNny.com. The Producers hate having them do alot of hockey. (though he says Chicago right now is all about the hockey)

Supposedly people like Linda Cohn and Steve Levy really have to fight to get hockey into their broadcasts, and it seems like hockey is only spoked about in the 6 o clock hour on the Kay show.

Maybe tonight somebody should put a sign on his back saying "I will talk hockey tomorrow"
