Per Vogs:
Ovechkin, Arnott Back in Caps’ Lineup
Ovechkin and Arnott will both be back on the ice tonight at Verizon Center when the Capitals open a three-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Quote:

The Caps return home after a six game road trip. It’s been two weeks since the Capitals played a game in the friendly confines of the Verizon Center. They return home to play a hungry Canes team somewhat out of the playoff hunt. While the Canes are five points out of the coveted eighth seed, they have been playing well down the stretch, hoping they can catch the Buffalo Sabres. While the Canes seem to be out of it, the Caps are deep in a race for the first seed. They are tied with the Penguins and both teams sit only two points behind the first place Flyers for first in the Eastern Conference. The Caps have played more games thus far on the season so, they will likely need a bit of help to keep their chances of another Eastern Conference regular season title within reach.

Fast Facts

Quote:

With just over two weeks remaining before the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin, the Capitals may be on the verge of getting some key players back. Alex Ovechkin and Jason Arnott both practiced with the team in full pads on Monday, while Mike Green skated briefly in full pads, but mostly before the rest of the team took the ice, according to the Washington Post. It would appear Green is still a ways from returning, but Ovechkin and Arnott seem to be closing in on game action.
Quote:

Carolina netminder Cam Ward leads the NHL with 1,968 saves this season, a franchise record that eclipsed the previous mark held by Sean Burke. Burke had 1,844 saves in 1995-96. Only six NHL netminders have reached the 2,000-save plateau since the 2005-06 season, led by Roberto Luongo (then with Florida), who made 2,275 saves in 2005-06.
Quote:

All three of the Capitals' rookie goalies have beaten the Hurricanes this season -- Semyon Varlamov leads the way with three wins, posting a 1.95 goals-against average and .937 save percentage. Neuvirth posted a 29-save shutout in a 3-0 victory on Oct. 27, while more recently Holtby stopped 41 of 42 shots in a 2-1 triumph on March 11.
Quote:

Only once since the Hartford/Carolina franchise entered the NHL in 1979-80 have the Capitals swept the season series. That was in 1997-98 when Washington went 4-0 against the Hurricanes in the season prior to the formation of the Southeast Division. Washington advanced to the Stanley Cup final that season.
Quote:

During the recently completed trip, Boudreau coached in the 300th game of his NHL career on Friday night in Ottawa. Boudreau won 184 of his first 300 games in the league (184-78-38), the most of any coach in NHL history after 300 games.

You do know that there is an inverse relationship between effort put into the GDT and the Caps effort put forth in a game, right?

brs03 03-29-2011 10:45 AM

Looks like Ovechkin and Arnott are back in, Beagle and Chimera out.

FWIW, I agree less is more for GDT's :P

This + a big game from Varly and to see Sturm progress.

QuadrupleDeke 03-29-2011 11:10 AM

Carolina's pretty out of it but they don't know it yet, which means they'll be very dangerous. Obviously hoping for 2 points, but more importantly the Caps need to stay healthy and work on getting a power play together over the next 6 games.

BrooklynCapsFan 03-29-2011 11:12 AM

The average size of both the players and their hearts increases dramatically with these additions.

When the playoffs start and other teams posters inevitably start spamming our board and trying to argue things we don't care about, i am thinking about posting horror movie quotes for them to ponder over. And to otherwise ignore them.

Capitlols 03-29-2011 11:22 AM

Carolina is going to come out guns blazing, need to match their intensity.

Agreed. He's been really good on both the print and Twitter fronts.

Foy 03-29-2011 11:24 AM

I found him quite irritating, and stopped following the twitter feeds.

I would really like to get Greenie back.

Drake1588 03-29-2011 11:34 AM

Green's own Twitter comments have also been slightly encouraging in the last 24 hours. That is hardly a ringing affirmation or a timeline, of course, but it's better than, "I'm too dizzy to stand up without retching."

Duke33 03-29-2011 11:35 AM

Carolina's pretty much dead, the Caps just need to bury the body.

4-1 Caps.
