Mats Zuccarello status (4/18: Sent back down)

NYDNRangers
According to AHL website, Mats Zuccarello sent down to Connecticut by #NYR

SwedishBullet62 04-01-2011 10:20 AM

Honestly can't say I didn't see this coming.....probably the best for his development.

English Ranger 04-01-2011 10:22 AM

Not a huge surprise. His ice time seems to have been dropping off steadily. Unless I dreamt that, which I may have...

Hopefully the spell will do him some good. Probably no bad thing for him to be away from the pressure cooker of the play offs. Would be terrible for one bad game or mistake to ruin him.

TrollololBoyle 04-01-2011 10:23 AM

Any ideas as to who will be called up in his place?

Williams, Weise or Kolarik?

Puckface NYR* 04-01-2011 10:25 AM

Fine by me. At this point i'd rather have newbury or weise in the lineup than Zucc.

Melrose_Jr. 04-01-2011 10:26 AM

Does it mean Boogaard or Drury is ready to go?

azrok22 04-01-2011 10:27 AM

Someone put Zuccarello's Norwegian contingent of board posters on suicide watch.

I'm meh on the move.

I think Wolski is back in, no one else getting called up.

NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
No more callups allowed except injury replacements. RT @the_nange: wait, who's coming back in? or are we just running with players we have?

AJRanger 04-01-2011 10:29 AM

Doesn't mention anyone being called up, but I'm assuming that doesn't need to be done at the same time anyway with no game 'til Sunday?

Ah, turcotte got it.

Lol i thought the same thing. Cue the trolling in the next GDT

I dunno. If we lose in the shoot out in any of the next few games and don't make the playoffs, we'll all be second guessing this for the entire summer. I would've sat EC or Wolski.

After what you said about Zucc, you'd sit out EC or Wolski? The other shootout specialists?

Its not like Zucc has done much in shootout recently. He has that one move and and it hasn't worked recently.

Dagh 04-01-2011 10:53 AM

I'm fairly sure he's got more than that one move

Regardless, it might be better for him to go down to the AHL and get some ice time than to alternate between the pressbox and playing limited minutes a night.

MZA is higher % than either of them and, to me, has certainly been the more visible offensive player than either of those two ass clowns recently + MZA is part of the future of this team (perhaps that argument can be made about Wolski, but he's been on A LOT of teams already considering his age).

NYR Viper 04-01-2011 10:59 AM

It is very possible that they feel he may start to get pushed around as the games get more physical. If that is the case, there is no point in giving him 5-8 minutes a game when he could be playing 20 minutes a game in the AHL and helping their playoff chances.

Brendan Shanahan 04-01-2011 11:01 AM

Wow. All I can say. Can't believe EC is getting the pass over him.

They probably don't care about giving him 5-7 minutes a game if he isnt playing well. They obviously care about developing MZA.

I've seen another move once and it failed miserably.

I'd believe that, except, they were much quicker to scratch Zuccarello (ie. 0 minutes) as EC continues to play every night when he doesn't deserve to at all.

Fitzy 04-01-2011 11:07 AM

Last night's 5 on 3 was the last straw.

The kid had a nice stretch here. But he isn't quite at a level where he can play top 6 minutes. I think he should compete for a starting job in camp next year, hopefully with Christian Thomas.

He's probably incapable of pulling any of them off then, despite having done them before (although at a lower level).
You certainly won that discussion. A commemorative plaque is on its way to you in the mail, so that you may forever remember this glorious moment.

RGY 04-01-2011 11:12 AM

MZA and that clown Christensen have both been atrocious. I cant believe EC still gets playing time. Did Torts bump his head? EC running the PP's???? WTF...the guy who cant hit the freaking net? The guy who is letting go slap shots when his wrist shot is better and more accurate. Unbelievable.

We sit W2 who is hands down better than both of those guys. He's better than Avery too. I know he hasnt produced in the last two weeks but its not like he's getting any feasible ice time.

Just poor coaching.
