Best Powerplay Players

Okay you've got a situation where the team is down by one in the third period and earns a PP....Who are the guys in the NHL that you most want on the PP?

Basically...who are the best players in the league on the powerplay? I'm thinking more of a visual judgment instead of point totals because some guys are great on the PP but are stuck on a team with few offensive weapons.

From the Bruins....I would have nominated Savard but now I guess I'll go with Kaberle based on his track record.

Sedin - Crosby - St. Louis
Lidstrom - Green

I'd actually go:

D. Sedin - Crosby - Stamkos
Chara - Green

Chara's always been a beast on the PP, and just imagine Crosby passing to Stamkos and Daniel.

If you can have forwards (who play the point) playing the point, then I'd go with -

Sedin - Sedin - Crosby
Ovi - B Richards

If 2 D and 3 F,

Stammer - Crosby - Sedin (I don't mind which one)
Lidstrom - Lubo

Edit: You know what, I totally forgot about Selanne, and that makes me a bad human being. I apologise/apologize depending on what country you live in.

Teemu Selanne

He's like a slippery snake on the PP. I mean that in a good way.

Stamkos.

He's got a great one timer on his off wing.

VC 04-02-2011 09:17 AM

D.Sedin - H.Sedin - Kesler
Edler - Ehrhoff
:sarcasm:

Ideally you need a net presence, a good cyclers that are a playmaking/sniping combo with pointmen that are deft passers with good shots that can also skate for timely pinches. So....

D.Sedin - H.Sedin - R.Nash
M.Green - B.Richards

Bondys Champagne 04-02-2011 09:28 AM

St. Louis, he is a beast of a quarterback

Temego 04-02-2011 09:32 AM

Selanne Crosby Stamkos
Ovie Lidstrom

Crosby - playmaker
Stamkos - sniper
Ovechkin and Lidstrom - heavy shots from the point
Selanne - In the end, he'll end up doing the scoring

It seems that the little guys are so tough to deal with if they have extra space. They can turn on a dime and also have great quickness to win races for the puck.

I'd definitely take St. Louis.

C77 04-02-2011 09:33 AM

I think Shea Weber might be one of my picks for a defenseman on the first unit...maybe Carlson in a few years.

C77 04-02-2011 09:42 AM

Anyways one of my favorites to watch was Brian Leetch...I've never seen someone so good at keeping the puck inside the offensive zone...It was really uncanny.

But for now I'd go with....

Stamkos - Crosby- P Kane

Lidstrom - Weber

Kane because he can hold onto the puck so well which allows time for other players to get open.

Crosby/Toews because of one on one ability. I'd also consider a guy like Ryan Callahan to do the dirty work...He's one of my favorite players.

Teemu Selanne

And way down here is the best player after him

jepjepjoo 04-02-2011 09:51 AM

Selanne-Selanne-Selanne
Selanne-Pronger

Removing the two Sedins for a moment, I think this PP would be sick:

Stamkos - Briere - Ovie
Green - St Louis

Stamkos - shooting forward
Ovie - physical scoring winger
Briere - behind the net setup center, has chemistry with Ovie
Mike Green - PPQB
St. Louis - runs the cycle from the point or high on the half-wall

BigTuna49 04-02-2011 10:24 AM

Lidstrom, D. Sedin, H. Sedin, don't care about the other two. It's irrelevent.

ArGarBarGar 04-02-2011 10:25 AM

I would like to point out Nicklas Lidstrom is one point behind Daniel Sedin for the lead in powerplay points. As a defenseman.

Tony Clifton Leaf 04-02-2011 10:26 AM

Sedin-Sedin-Crosby
Ovechckin-Malkin/Kovalchuck

I think that's the best PP unit possible.

DowJones 04-02-2011 10:28 AM

Stamkos-Crosby-Holmstrom
Lidstrom-Green

or maybe:

Selanne-Sedin-Ovechkin
Kovalchuck-Weber

jiggsawpuzzle35 04-02-2011 10:34 AM

Might as well call this the Teemu Selanne is the best Power Player thread.

Pepin le bref 04-02-2011 11:10 AM

Maybe a homer pick but since the lockout, Montreal always has had a dominant power play and one of the main factor is Andrei Markov. One of the best at distributing the puck from the point and when he can work with shooting options like Kovalev, Souray and Bergeron he is dynamite.

Not a homer pick at all, sir. Markov is right up there when it comes to PPQB's. As a Leaf fan, its sucks to see him 6 times a year.

Sky04 04-02-2011 11:41 AM

some great PP forwards are

Kovalchuk
Stamkos
Crosby
Ovechkin
St.louis
B.Richards
Selanne
Sedins

hatterson 04-02-2011 11:43 AM

Stamkos - Crosby - St. Louis
Lidstrom - Kaberle
