I'd prefer Green doesn't play. I don't believe in "tuning up" when everyone else on the ice will be half-assing it. He's not gonna be able to get up for this game. I say skate him hard in practice and unleash him in round 1.

Vladiator16 04-09-2011 08:37 AM

Green needs some game time, you couldn't ask for a better opponent. Doesn't matter who wins, i just hope nobody gets hurt in the most meaningless game of the season.

4-1 Caps!

EYEuhFRAYtee 04-09-2011 08:44 AM

And so ends the longest regular season in Caps history.

Vladiator16 04-09-2011 08:57 AM

Hopefully, this is the last time this season i see clean cut, shaven OV. Say no to Gillette!

ForzaItalia 04-09-2011 09:00 AM

Green needs to hit the ice today. A lot of it is psychological in knowing he can take a hit and keep playing. I'd rather do this now than throw him into the fire of playoff game #1.

Ovechkins Wodka 04-09-2011 09:07 AM

No Green tonight per twitter... didnt even make the road trip so we werent planning on using him even before we clinched the east.

Chimaera 04-09-2011 09:10 AM

as soon as I saw him practice in Hershey, I figured he might not play.

No need to risk him honestly.

thank god.

green: he's been symptom free for three weeks. he has not been cleared. he's ready to play. he's quite ready to play. he's playing.
he's not playing.

i hope they can win in the playoffs without a puck mover other than carlson.
i really wonder whether we see either green or wideman.

on the other hand this might all be salary cap/ltir management. who knows. i have a headache.

Not entirely sure what Green not traveling means. I'm not happy about it, I was really looking forward to having him back for the playoffs.

Sk8 has been suggesting for some time that we cant fit green back into the lineup and be under the salary cap. Which would explain why green is ready to go and being held out.

I hope this is the case, but I don't like what it means for next year unless Schultz is a salary dump in the offseason.

It's vitally important to keep Hannan, not quite so much Wideman though I would personally like to see him stay. Arnott may retire in the offseason, but I hope he doesn't. Lots of guys are due raises but someone is going to have to go to keep a comparable line up to what we have now.

I could be seriously misunderstanding our cap situation though.

Re: Green's absence - Possibly prudent, somewhat disappointing, maybe concerning.

txpd 04-09-2011 10:16 AM

honestly, i am at a point with these injuries that i will believe they are playing when they are in the lineup. widmen could be playing next week and green not til next season for all i know.

True, but I'd add and possibly cap/LTIR related. If this is about not getting medical clearance - 'concerning'; if it's about questioning him returning for a last game - 'possibly prudent'; if it's not an option to remove him from LTIR until the regular season ends and playoffs begin, then while it would be nice for him to play in a game, better than the other options at this time so I'll say - 'promising.'

Chimaera 04-09-2011 10:22 AM

I'm really apathetic.

They ran Collins into a ditch, what's to say some bozo won't possibly run Green?

If he's ready, he's ready. Not because he got 18-20 against Florida.

The concern would be if he's not ready/hasn't received medical clearance. I don't believe that's the issue (cap/LTIR) but we won't know for sure unless someone asks some direct questions and gets answers; otherwise we possibly wait until game 1 of the playoffs (which looks like it will be Wed. night,) to have an answer.

sk84fun_dc 04-09-2011 10:42 AM

kcarrera

"Alex Ovechkin, Mike Knuble and Marco Sturm aren't on the ice at BankAtlantic Center for the #Caps morning skate."

With Ovechkin and Knuble not sure how much this means.

and she updates:

kcarrera

"Sorry, misspoke earlier. Mike Knuble is indeed out on the ice for the skate."

Funkyalligator 04-09-2011 10:42 AM

I think the big thing with green is that we fans have basically no idea what is up with him. The caps have long been very secretive about injuries and it has it's ups and downs....but in the long run I think it's better for the team especially playoff time. At least every one of the injured players we have are known quantities withwhom BB has experience.
