You left out of the article the Ducks' game 1. Right before the playoffs the league sat down (or had a conference call, really) with all the teams (coaches, GMs), and let them know in no uncertain terms that the "sending of messages" at the end of a playoff game will not be tolerated in any fashion (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=361998).
So what happens at the end of the Ducks 1st game? In the final minute they send out Parros, Ruutu, and Brookbank to "send a message" - all three get misconduct penalties.
And the league response? Silence....

as long as gary bettman and the dimwitted underlings like colin campbell are in power... the nhl to me, will always be considered a mickey mouse league

anyways, go kings!

Its a total joke of a league disciplinary board. Why the hell there was no suspension to Abdelkater on Seabrook just shows how screwed up this league is. I'd like to see Ron Maclean of Hockey Night In Canada sit down with these guys and run through the hits that were suspension worthy and the ones that weren't and justify it with their own words.

Great Article as always.

Seems to be accurate...

Every single Kings player got suspensions on the hit Demers made...and yet it was declared a "hockey play" for the rest of the league...

The discipline in the NHL is a joke. They are far too soft on the actual offenders and tend to ignore obvious offenses. They either use a dart board to decide which moronic call they will make, because there doesn't seem to be any logic or pattern behind their choices at all.

As a Flyers/Kings fan myself, I clearly agree with you, reset! I always hear a ton of people around the league *****ing and moaning about how horrible Bettman and Campbell both are and if that is the case where most complain about them both, how in the blue hell do either of them still have jobs?

For offenses Flyer players commit, as minimal as most may be, the league drops the hammer on them and I think it's solely because of their past, but if a Penguin commits the same offense or worse (ex. Matt Cooke), the discipline is minimal or non-existant and that's just wrong because ALL discipline should be EQUAL, irregardless of the team...:shakehead
