NHL Gives Bobby Ryan 2 Game Suspension

just heard on TSN

jax00 04-16-2011 05:09 PM

No one to blame but himself on that one. No idea what he was thinking.

I figured one was just right, not too much not too little. I guess the league thought differently.

Selanne138 04-16-2011 05:11 PM

very dumb play, lets hope Bobby uses his down time to practice the art of the knee to knee collision.

This team has fought through adversity all season, time to do it again.

Degenerate191 04-16-2011 05:14 PM

In years past this team has responded well to things like this. Icing a 4th line that can play more than 2.5 minutes a game is going to be key, and whoever gets the nod to play in Ryan's slot needs to step up.

I completely agree with the suspension, 1-2 games was what was deserved for that play. Nobody should be surprised.

McDonald19 04-16-2011 05:15 PM

Got to focus on the task ahead of them. Beleskey plays well with Getzlaf and Perry. We will be okay.

Coming back to Anaheim 2-2 I believe. Home ice advantage at that point, best of 3 series.

alx83* 04-16-2011 05:15 PM

I hope we don't screw with what is a solid third line. But unfortunately, that's going to happen. Apparently Sexton is practicing.

BeleskeyPG
Masterson
Sexton-Bonino-McMillan
Whatever scraps Carlyle wants

So excited to see this for two games.

jax00 04-16-2011 05:16 PM

Call up Palmieri dammit.

Well, yeah, the play was kind of dumb, but Bobby must feel crappy right now - very dangerous play against him at the end of the season with no consecuences, and now he makes less dangerous play and gets suspended for 2 games.

Charge up for the many games after suspension, Bobby!

:dunno:

April 13th: Recalled goaltender Igor Bobkov, defensemen Mat Clark and Nate Guenin, and forwards Nicolas Deschamps, Josh Green, Peter Holland, Patrick Maroon and Kyle Palmieri from Syracuse (AHL).

Or did you mean insert into lineup?

I completely missed this. But yeah, that's what I wanna see.

SmackCrackleNPop 04-16-2011 05:23 PM

Not too surprised, was hoping for one game only. How does Stoll get only one game though with a direct shot to the head?

Hmm, hopefully someone other than Sexton will get into the lineup. Sexton will get destroyed out there.

Because the league isn't as serious about head-shots as they say they are, even when a concussion occurs. They'd rather worry about odd plays like a "stomp" that does not cause injury.

Ducks DVM 04-16-2011 05:37 PM

On the bright side you would hope this means the Ducks get competent officiating now so the league doesn't look biased. And competent officiating will get a number of Ducks PP, which don't rely on Ryan. I think there is still hope.

Assuming the league gives a crap about not looking biased.

We're screwed.

caliamad 04-16-2011 05:59 PM

What a loss. Likely PG will be less effective 5 on 5.

I'm not sure Belesky is ready for prime time and since we can't choose matchups on faceoffs, I think Winchester is the right move there. That will force Trotz to put major beef against that line and less likely to try and take advantage of the rookie 3rd line.

I'd also like to see Parros benched for this game and put Marchant Ruttu and someone defensively responsible on the 4th line so that Carlyle has an option to eat minutes if the 3rd line gets overwhelmed.

We're going to need to huge defensive games and try to win these games 2-1... really tighten up on odd man chances and getting beat on give and goes.

TheFlyingV 04-16-2011 06:07 PM

It may be just me but I don't think Ryan has looked too impressive as of late. Hopefully it will light a fire under him.

davidy2d 04-16-2011 06:17 PM

As was pointed out to me, there is a lot of intent with a stomp, regardless of the outcome. I'm upset of the suspension but that's more with the inconsistent discipline than anything. It's deserved and let's be glad it is just 2 games and that it wasn't one of Getzlaf/Perry/Selanne/Visnovsky making the play. Ryan is huge but we will, hopefully, survive without him.

I too would enjoy seeing Palmieri instead of Sexton but who knows. Didn't he have chemistry with Koivu (and Ryan)?

Wouldn't mind seeing:

Selanne-Getzlaf-Perry
Blake-Koivu-Sexton
Beleskey-Bonino-McMillan

Though Beleskey with the twins, Masterton, and Sexton/Winchester on the third line is what I expect to see. Maybe Chipchura to help stabilize the defense on the bottom six? Idk we'll know tomorrow.

He had had problems ever since that knee on knee collision. Whether it's mental or physical he has not been very good the past few games.

The solid 3rd line was actually a solid pair of Bonino and Mac. I actually think that line will be better with Sexton because he creates far more chances than Beleskey.

Anyways, I think this is probably the best lineup. Unless we want to try a different rookie instead of Beleskey. Im all for that. Im not a fan of that guy at all.

davidy2d 04-16-2011 06:45 PM

What about Winchester on the top line? He seems to cycle decently and if he is used to screen Rinne that could be beneficial.

Paul4587 04-16-2011 06:50 PM

I have no issue with the suspension, I thought 1 game max but obviously the NHL disagrees.

I do, however have an issue with the consistency. Stolls hit was far more dangerous than Ryans stomp and he gets one game. Demers takes a flying leap at Smyth and gets nothing. Cooke charges into Tyutin at full speed from behind and only gets four. Yet Ryan, someone with no prior incidents gets two for a harmless (although stupid) stomp.

Agreed. Glad it wasn't more than two.

Problem is, Winchester has no hands whatsoever, he can't make or finish a play to save himself and mishandles the puck on the cycle frequently.

I have no idea what the bias against Beleksey is, he's the best fit on the top line style wise and has had success there before. In 09-10 he had 0 goals in his first 21 games playing on the third and fourth lines and then went on to have 11 in 39 games playing on the top line, good for a 23 goal pace. This year he's looked lost at times but I really see no other option. Unless they think Palmieri can step in and play efficiently with the twins.

JtotheLew 04-16-2011 07:04 PM

I'm not sure how Stoll can get 1 game for a blatantly illegal head shot and Ryan gets 2 for this.
