Maybe... if he can provide this much in all of regular season and playoffs, then definately resign. He's been a monster this eve. :yo:

infidelappel* 04-26-2011 09:03 PM

Not so sure about re-signing him (all depends on cost), but I'm really glad to see him playing this way right now.

I only re-sign him if we can still have Leino.

Oscar Acosta 04-26-2011 09:32 PM

Cheap is the left out word.

Beef Invictus 04-26-2011 09:32 PM

Depends on if he wants to keep doing this. Either way, I'd only give him a year.

RIPRichardsCarter 04-26-2011 09:39 PM

We'll offer him a similar deal but a little longer IMO, 2 years 2 mil per. I doubt he accepts that personally.

wahoowa 04-26-2011 09:40 PM

I love how Zherdev has responded in the playoffs. Backchecking hard and actually hitting people (!!!). The reason he is so maddening is for that reason: if he showed half that heart throughout the season we wouldn't even be considering letting him go (except for cap reasons).

SolidSnakeUS 04-26-2011 09:46 PM

If we can get him for about the same price or about 2.5M, I would seriously re-sign him as well. It seems that Lavy really got into his head and made him a better player.

whatthef 04-26-2011 09:51 PM

We'll it's only been a few games but he's been great in the playoffs. If he can play like this regularly I would be in favor of keeping him (not at the expense of Leino though).

JVR21 04-26-2011 09:53 PM

I'm loving the Z support.

BernieParent 04-26-2011 09:54 PM

I have zero expectations that the Flyers will resign Zherdev. The best we can hope for (IMHO) is to get a pick for his rights before July 1. And even that's a stretch.

iamcanadian23 04-26-2011 09:54 PM

The key is whether or not he can keep this going. He had some solid play in this series when called upon, and looked like a totally different player out there. I wouldn't be giving him much of a raise, or anything more than a year - but would consider it if he can keep this up. Kudos Z!

StandingCow 04-26-2011 10:03 PM

Z can play like a madman when he wants to, but then he can just take multiple nights off...

Not sure I want him resigned actually...

Juicy Couturier* 04-26-2011 10:04 PM

Lets see him show it for more than 2-3 games before offering multiple years.

flyersfan187 04-26-2011 10:16 PM

He has pleasantly surprised me this playoff series, but lets give it more time to see how he does. I'm sure once we win the Stanley Cup we will know!!

ShawnTHW 04-26-2011 11:19 PM

I can't believe people want him resigned because of a single good series. Remember what happened when we resigned Leighton.

The guy will eventually be in the press box if you resign him. His ego is still so far up his ass it's giving him heartburn.

decadentia 04-26-2011 11:24 PM

Even at 2 mil, how can we afford him? Weren't all of our cap predictions expecting him to be gone?

SgtJoseph 04-27-2011 01:12 AM

I like Z, he has made great strides in his game under Lavy, and from all accounts he is much liked by his team mates etc....I think he has been a great pick-up, and i can see him winning a few for us in these play-offs.He has some mad skills offensively.

FreshPerspective 04-27-2011 01:18 AM

I'm not going to jump the gun until his body of work can be judged much more longitudinally. Great seeing him do so well last few games but with him it's always about sustainability. Let's see how he does in the second round since the competition will be tougher...

dats81 04-27-2011 03:18 AM

1. Wait until after the playoffs
2. Resign Leino
3. Resign Zherdev for cheap only if it doesn't prevent us from getting a veteran goalie not named Brian Boucher
(4. Sign him for cheap and use him as trade bait?!)

FlyerSithLord 04-27-2011 08:44 AM

I love the effort Z is giving in these playoffs. He's definently earned a spot on the roster for the remainder of the playoffs in my mind. That being said though, if he does keep it up, I doubt we'd be able to afford him next year. If he ends up having a strong playoff, somebody will give him a shot next year.

LEIFey 04-27-2011 08:49 AM

If he can keep up this intensity, then yes, you try to keep him. But everyone should be leery of the possibility that he's just playing for a contract at this point. He has all the tools and talents to be an amazing player, as we've seen in spurts. He just has to show the consistency.

Spongolium* 04-27-2011 09:08 AM

maximum 1 year contract. You have to keep making him play for his contract, or he's going to coast the year

Cartsiephan* 04-27-2011 09:26 AM

No thank you, plenty of better options out there. His best deal is going to come from someone who can pay him for what he does from here on out, but signing him to a multi-year deal in Philly would be the dumbest thing they could do.

I get really confused, is he the scorer that everyone raves about or the guy who shows up a couple games and then magically disappears? I want him to continue the effort because he is such a strong skater but that money could be much better allocated.
