"NEW YORK -- Another year, another NHL Foundation Player Award nomination for Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown.

For the third straight year, Brown was nominated for the award given annually to recognize charitable and community work.

Also receiving nominations were Washington Capitals defenceman Mike Green and Vancouver Canucks twin brothers Daniel and Henrik Sedin.

The award winner will be announced June 22 at the NHL award banquet in Las Vegas."

He should win this year. He really has been fantastic with charities and fans. A true class-act and the definition of a character player.

He went above and beyond this year, not only continuing the work with his foundation but by donating thousands from that Twitter/Japan relief program he had going. Brown remains one of the outstanding young statesmen for the game today.

I agree with the above posts. Dustin has gone above and beyond. He deserves it.

The question is, what did the other guys do?

The Sedins probably did the most by sheer volume, they kicked up about 3/4 of a million each for a Vancouver Children's hospital. The Canucks overall are really a phenomenal philanthropic force, they raise quite a bit of money through a really wide array of promotions. Every time I've been there they've got something going on to raise money and it's always successful. It helps to be the biggest sport in the city and the only pro show in town but that's still amazing.

Green I know has gotten involved with KaBoom and has his own foundation, he also hosts a lot of kids and soldiers at games. I'd say Brownie is a long shot to win the award perhaps but he stays in the picture and in this case the cliche of a nomination being an honor really is true.
