Timonen to meet with Homer - Why?

I wonder what this could be about?

Timonen says he has a meeting with Holmgren in a few days. "I don't think we'll have coffee and cakes there."

Beef Invictus 05-10-2011 02:07 PM

Uh-oh.

dingbathero 05-10-2011 02:13 PM

Ship him out. Get younger.

Slowbro 05-10-2011 02:13 PM

i hope he doesnt retire.

if homer trades him i think i will boycott for a little while..

1865 05-10-2011 02:15 PM

This could get slightly nasty....

If he trades him, I'm going to become quite disillusioned.

Why? He's old and had a horrific postseason. Trade him if you can and get younger. His production does not justify his salary.

FreshPerspective 05-10-2011 02:17 PM

I say he should retire and we can use the $$ elsewhere and start addressing things for the longer term now. Too many variables in a season to try and take advantage of 1 more year that we think the window is still cracked. Lots of teams are going to improve and be even more competitive like NJ etc so we should try to keep up rather than stay in neutral too much hoping that Timonen and Pronger stay healthy..these two guys are going to be playing spot duty in the years to come...at least with Pronger since Timonen has one more year in him and then he retires although it may be sooner if this meeting turns into a retirement discussion...

Timonen is only due $8 mill the next two seasons, but his cap hit is $6.33 over the same time.

His NMC says no though.

I highly doubt they move him, but unlike Richards and Carter, I could see the Flyers at least explore this option. I sure hope not though.

He was injured.

Timonen is a guy who does a LOT in the lockerroom (by all accounts) and is still a good defenseman. If he goes, the defense and team take a step backwards.

edit: well, never mind then. Euroflyer to the rescue!

Vikke 05-10-2011 02:23 PM

Every player meets with the GM after the season. Nothing to see here.

Slowbro 05-10-2011 02:24 PM

lol @ the "get rid of timonen" posts

and bring in who?

Apparently Cartsiephan and JXC think we can shed guys like Timonen, Richards and Carter at the drop of a hat and be a BETTER team for it.

Umm what?

1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points +3 (team leading)

How does 37 points and +11 not justify his salary? Kimo seems to be criminally underrated by some people.

Lots of solid free agent D men available actually.....personally don't want to see Timonen go and don't advocate trading him. My comment was basically that if he wants to retire nothing you can do anyway and you can get a head start while the free agent D market is pretty good..that's all. Again people take this crap wayyyy to personal!

Horrific is an over-statement. I'm not going to shove him over the cliff because of an under-stated play-offs though, like you clearly seem to be willing to.

He's saying that cause people have been hating on his boy lately. He's hoping they get rid of Timonen and keep Carle of course.

Cool - thanks. I didn't know he was a joke. It was however a retweet from HFBoards own Bill Meltzer. If that was a "quote", then obviously Kimmo assumes the meeting is not "good".

Well, the season didn't go so well, and I imagine Kimmo has quite a few things to say.

FLYERSFAN18 05-10-2011 02:45 PM

How suprised would you be if he did retire?

I wouldnt be completely suprised.

Beat me to it.

And god I hate this time of year. Everything gets blown completely out of proportion, and everything is a marker of the end times, when everything will get blown up and the Flyers will finally start all over and do it right this time. :shakehead

Neither does Carle's, but I'd rather have a broken down injured Timonen on the ice.

Based on his comments I don't think it would really surprise me. It would really ****ing suck though. The cap space would be nice, but I don't know how we would fill that void.

Homer's history of offseason blunders doesn't help.

Well if timonen retired and we could trade carle that would free up about 9.8 million in cap space. And there are some pretty good free agent defenders this year. There are veterans and young guys like Ehrhoff, Wisniewski, Bieksa, and anton babchuck for example. Probably could still have some extra cap room after getting two of those
