Doesn't the media vote for the HOF? He's not doing himself any favors... not that what he's saying isn't true. The media might hold grudges though.

Kitten Mittons 05-13-2011 03:36 PM

Thornton is a jerk to the media but he does it with his nice smile, so I'm sure everyone forgives him.

Does anyone else feel like Niemi is more liked in the locker room than Nabby. It seems like they are much more eager to celebrate with him and constantly talk about him ... I dunno - he seems to be a popular guy in a locker room even though he seems like an introvert.

LadyStanley 05-13-2011 03:54 PM

brodiebrazilCSN 1:46pm via TweetDeck Last night's #sjsharks game set a new ratings record on CSN-CA, peaking at a 10.13, which is more than 250k households.

 The way Boyle said "He's our guy" really speaks a lot to how much the team likes him.

250,000 x 2.59 = 647,500

647,500 / 7,468,390 = 1 in 11.5 people in the Bay Area saw the game.

Still pretty good. I can see those ratings nearly doubling if we make it all the way.

PS: I wish there was a specific ratings stat for San Jose only.

SactoShork 05-13-2011 04:08 PM

The press is intentionally asking questions about themselves to get a quote out of Thornton.

I don't think it hurts their feelings at all... I think they like the attention and it makes their jobs easier.

Could it be because he's the new guy and they're going out of their way to include him? Or because he's not much of an interview so he rarely gets quotes, while Nabby got interviewed himself often?

They do speak highly of him though, his work ethic, etc.

ClicheGuevara 05-13-2011 04:27 PM

Yeah, it's been said a ton of times by many players that they love playing for Nemo. Emphasis on "for Nemo". I don't recall any players putting it that way when Nabby was in nets.
The turning point in the season was when the team learned how to play with Niemi in net, they really focused on helping him out by clearing his rebounds and taking away the 2nd and 3rd opportunities. So, strangely, his biggest weakness as a goalie might be what made the team better defensively and why they play for him.

You pretty much have to be an introvert to be a goal. You spend most of the time during the game by yourself.

Kyle Wellwood's wife is no slouch. She started labor **during** the game but told team not to tell her husband until the game was over, and they needed to head to hospital.
