Oilers/Sabres Proposal

To Buffalo:

Eric Brewer

To Edmonton:

Jay Mckee
Ales Kotalik
2nd round pick

Value-wise it's fair, but it's a redundant trade. Replace Brewer for Mckee and you get a less-offensive, older defenseman, and there is no need for Kotalik with Hemsky already filling that void.

I think the Oilers would like Kalinin or Tallinder or even Jillson more. The Oilers need more offense from their bluebline as they already have 5 solid defensive-defenseman like McKee and two great defensive-defenseman prospects in Woywitka and Lynch.

Mc is a step down from Brewer

When you factor in salaries, I think Buffalo would prefer McKee

Agreed, value-wise its not bad. It just doesn't seem like there's any NEED to do this trade... The Oilers can still afford Brewer currently and its not like Buffalo NEEDS Brewer over McKee.

No way I do that from a Sabres POV.

Agreed. I'd rather they try to fetch a #3/4 type with Kotalik (or any other forward deemed "spare") and a pick than shuffle McKee plus for Brewer.

I doubt that either team does it, as both lack depth on defense and both McKee and Brewer are highly valuable to their respective teams and unlikely to be moved.

I agree - one of those loose-loose trades IMO.

JOHNBOY 07-15-2004 02:32 PM

Is everyone forgeting that Jay is a little injury prone??

That is why I had it slightly favour the Oilers...

Vyse64 07-15-2004 02:51 PM

news to me that Brewer is injury prone

TVanek26* 07-15-2004 03:14 PM

Pass.Brewer would be an ideal #2 below Kalinin, but the '05 draft is deep and I don't want to give up picks.

he was saying that McKee is injury prone, and that's why he tried to tilt it more in your favor.

SuperNintendoChalmrs 07-15-2004 04:46 PM

Jay Brewer
