If Scott Gomez were put on re-entry waivers...

Would you want the Devils to claim him? $3.7M cap hit for the next three seasons.

Scottyk9 05-22-2011 08:50 PM

We don't need centers.

Zajac,Yayo,Henrique,Elias ( he's more valuable @ center now ) Steckel.

Soon to be SC.. most likely.

Devilsfan92 05-22-2011 08:50 PM

Nope.

Feed Me A Stray Cat 05-22-2011 08:51 PM

I think I would. Good on faceoffs, solid defensively, and still a very good passer. Could mesh well with Kovalchuk. I'd trade Zubrus and be much happier with Gomez at nearly the same price.

Tedenby21 05-22-2011 08:52 PM

No. He is horrible on defense and all he does is pass. I don't want a logjam at center because of him. By his 3rd year he will be playing on the 4th line.

CerebralGenesis 05-22-2011 08:53 PM

3.7 is still quite a fee at half whewie.

I'd consider it so I'll vote ya.

DatBoyJPP 05-22-2011 08:53 PM

If we don't draft a C I wouldn't be opposed to it but I'm gonna say no.

I think at $3.7M Gomez is a tradable commodity, so if our prospects progress as expected we could deal him in this hypothetical scenario.

Eric Sachs 05-22-2011 08:56 PM

we don't have the cap space.

Mgd31 05-22-2011 09:01 PM

Yea I'd take him possibly. Waive Steckel and find a taker for Zubrus

Gomez put up less than 40 points this year. If you want to get rid of Zubrus for lack of point production, then why would you want to bring in something similar?

He's one year removed from being a consistent 60+ point producer. That's considerable value at 3.7 million

BrodeursCups 05-22-2011 09:04 PM

No. Floating worthless POS. I loved every minute of his terrible season this year...

Gomez and Zubrus aren't the least bit similar when it comes to point production. This was the first season in seven years that Gomez posted below 55 points. Zubrus has never scored above 42 points when Ovechkin wasn't his linemate (only above 55 points twice).

It would be a move the fans would eventually regret.

PacManNJD 05-22-2011 09:08 PM

Gomez isn't even worth $3.7M, IMO.

The defense for Kovalchuk-Gomez-Tedenby would be brutal. All you have to do is look at how Gomez has played since he left the Devils. I don't know any Ranger or Habs fan that liked him. I laughed at my friend that is a Habs fan when they traded for Gomez and he still curses at Gomez to this day.

Really? Gomez played very well in his first season with the Rangers, and was good in 08-09 and 09-10. The contention was always his contract. If he were to put up 07-10 performances at $3.7M that would be well worth it in my opinion.

I'm sure most fans don't think highly of him, considering the way he left. I don't care about his personality, only production

Devils731 05-22-2011 09:12 PM

I voted no but I'm more on the fence. Gomez may be a good value at half price in the coming seasons. I was pretty anti Gomez when he was a devil too.

Darius Dangleaitis 05-22-2011 09:12 PM

You definitely got me thinking about this.

They hated him because he was getting paid like King Midas and wasn't producing at a ppg clip

And Gomez is bad defensively, what?

Saugus 05-22-2011 09:12 PM

I'd really rather not. Let the Habs deal with that contract.

Zajacs Bowl Cut 05-22-2011 09:13 PM

not a chance in hell.

Isn't this what got us into the mess with Rolston? Hoping he could live up to past glories? Gomez is on the decline and he floats around the defensive zone. Not to mention I think he would be a horrible fit for this team. I would rather Josefson play with Kovy than Gomez.
