Not sure if this should be merged but it is from TSN

Nice Bruins "reference" at the end.

broadwayblue 06-02-2011 12:52 PM

If we select Nathan Beaulieu at 15 I will be shocked.

t3hg00se 06-02-2011 12:57 PM

A lot of things about that article rubbed me the wrong way.

I can't stand the thought of that either.

The projected lineup from the article...

Mats Zuccarello-Aasen ($1,750,000) Brad Richards ($8,000,000) Marian Gaborik ($7,500,000)
Brandon Dubinsky ($4,500,000) Derek Stepan ($875,000) Ryan Callahan ($4,500,000)
Wojtek Wolski ($3,800,000) Artem Anisimov ($1,200,000) Evgeny Grachev ($816,666)
Sean Avery ($1,937,500) Brian Boyle ($1,000,000) Brandon Prust ($800,000)
Drury Buyout ($1,666,667) Erik Christensen ($925,000)

DEFENSEMEN (7)
Marc Staal ($3,975,000) Daniel Girardi ($3,325,000)
Ryan McDonagh ($1,300,000) Mike Sauer ($1,000,000)
Michael Del Zotto ($1,087,500) Tim Erixon ($900,000)
Matt Gilroy ($1,200,000)

GOALTENDERS (2)
Henrik Lundqvist ($6,875,000)
Martin Biron ($875,000)

Since this team is about $400K over the cap, I'd suggest leaving Gilroy off the team and signing a vet 7th dman to a league minimum contract or something.

I don't know how comfortable I am with Zucc's on the top line, but I think his skills might be able to shine with Richards and Gaborik. He showed us in his limited time this past season that he's not afraid to mix it up with other teams top Dmen. Remember the game against the Lightning? That stare down with Hedman? One of my favorite moments from 10/11

I love Avery still on the roster he's due for a big year IMHO. I think he's too generous thinking Grachev will make the team.

I'd also switch Anisimov and Stepan, then maybe keep Grachev in the AHL, re-sign Feds to play with Boyler and Prust on the fourth line and bump Avery up.

Also not so sure if WW is around, I think we deal him at the draft in a package for a 2nd round pick.

His "ratings"

Hank 78.71
Biron 80.24

So I guess Biron should be the starter next year.:help:

yeah i'm trying to figure it out. Maybe he has some weird formula using cap hits and b/c of the large difference b/w the two puts Biron higher?

There are a lot of things wrong with this mock-up. The salary cap is not updated to projected values for next season. Drury's buyout cap hit would be 3.7 million next season. Also I think Richards, Cally and Dubi cap hits are a bit high. I would say they could sign all three for around 1.5-2 million less than that combined.

Technically Biron did have better numbers last season:

2.13 GAA, .923 SV%

vs. Hank's:

2.28 GAA, .923 SV%

Dumb way of rating players though.

Zil 06-02-2011 02:52 PM

You can tell this guy has no idea what he's talking about by the fact that he says Dubinsky should play center rather than lw.

I Eat Crow 06-02-2011 03:24 PM

If we take Beaulieu or Oleksiak after trading for Erixon I'm gunna rage

Great article. This guy obviously knows the team very well. He really nailed it.

Third D pair MDZ -Kundratek. Replace Sauer with Erixon (he is LD).

Why? He is our best C as of today. The author said "if we don't get Richards". Anisimov is still not ready for 1C.

SupersonicMonkey* 06-02-2011 03:49 PM

Overall not a bad article at all.

The Bruins thing was obviously a typo.

Tawnos 06-02-2011 05:24 PM

Is it just me, or is Scott Cullen just a really bad writer?

Also, TSN.ca's editing staff sucks and has always sucked.

nafsregnar27 06-02-2011 06:33 PM

The only thing I liked about the article is the references of Callahan and Dubinsky, one being the heart while the latter is the soul. Other than that it's a yawn, nothin that isn't already known by Ranger fans.

He's also our best left wing as of today, and he's better on the wing than at center.
