If those fall through, the Wings asst position is open.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get a HC gig. Not knocking Hitch, but he may be caught up in a cycle of hiring where everyone's going young.

I had heard that Texas Stars' coach Glen Gulutzan had a leg up on the Dallas job. Interesting guy, would be the youngest bench boss.

Not sure if this was the route you were totally going down, or if you meant something temporary, but I think Hitch's NHL HC career is over.

Pretty much. I would not be shocked if he got another gig, but I don't expect it. I don't mean it as a knock on him or that he's not qualified, but that teams seem to have adopted a different tack.

In someone else's immortal words... Or at least close... "There are always... possibilities.".

There is a trend to go very young in the NHL right now for teams that are in rebuilding mode. I am not the least bit surprised that teams in question are going in to the direction there are. At some point that trend will reverse again. This really isn't a reflection on Hitch to this point. For example, there were a few teams that hugged the line of not meeting expectations and recovered at certain points. Teams that wouldn't go to a rookie coach after a mid-season firing. NJ went to JL, no surprise there.

I fully expect him to be back in the HC ranks, but it might not be in time to save the Jackets any money.

Unless NJ bites, I'm afraid this will be the case.

Maybe... Might be likely...

I like Hitch present post. He is good there. I do not have any problem with him now.

TSN reports that Niklas Lidstrom has agreed to a one year contract to remain with the Red Wings. That has to help our prospects in the defense pool.

can't believe Florida will have to spend almost $30m more just to get to the cap floor...that's sick...

Claude finds a head coaching stint on Winnepeg?

#NHL news. #Winnipeg will soon announce decision of Claude Noel as next head coach. It was between Noel and Mike Haviland going into draft

Yay good for him! I'll always remember him and his goofyass press conferences with a great deal of fondness.

Excellent news about Noel. I really think he deserves a shot. I enjoyed him immensely when he was here. All the best Claude!!!

Mike Richards to LA for Schenn and Simmonds.

I honestly thought you were joking. Wow, the Flyers are screwed.

I can't wait to hear the justification by Homer and Snyder.

Only thing I can think of is they plan to make Brad Richards an offer he can't refuse.
