WHL players at the Draft

We'll use this thread for reference as to who from the WHL gets picked. Where and to who will be here.

I'll continue to update this post as they get picked. (I'll be out for the first few picks of the draft, but I'm sure we'll know who RNH ends up with.)

I was going to do this, I was going to wait until tomorrow though.

Round 1

1. Edmonton - R. Nugent-Hopkins, Burnaby, B.C., C, 6 ft 0 in, 177 lb, Shoots L, Club Red Deer

Great Vision and Hockey IQ, the most polished player in the draft, should see time in the NHL right away, will have to convert to winger.

Pros: Highly skilled, has tremendous vision and hockey sense. Very elusive.
Cons: Lack of top-end speed and size. Even-strength production could be better.
Skill-set comparison: A cross between Ales Hemsky and Pavel Datsyuk

11. Colorado - D. Siemens, Edmonton, AB, D, 6.03, 192 lb, Shoots L, Club Saskatoon

Responsible Stay at Home defender, but not afraid to to join the rush. Excellent slap shot makes him a threat on the powerplay, similar to Jay Bouwmeester in this stage of his career.

Siemens is a player with huge potential for the NHL. He is a guy who may only need one more year to develop his game.

Pros: Size, strength, skating, big shot
Cons: Decision making, can his offensive game translate?
Skill-set Comparison: Dan Hamhuis

13. Calgary - S. Bärtschi, Bern or Langenthal, Switzerland, LW, 5 ft 10 in, 185 lb, Shoots L, Club Portland

Pros: Playmaking, stickhandling, deadly shot, strong skater
Cons: Lacks top end speed, defensive troubles
Skill-set Comparison: David Krejci

18. Chicago - M. McNeill, Langley, B.C., C, 6 ft 2 in, 210 lb, Shoots R, Club Prince Albert

Pros: Speed, Size, Strength, work ethic
Cons: Offensive upside, defensive consistency
Skill-set comparison: cross between Brooks Laich and Shawn Horcoff

23. Pittsburgh - J. Morrow, Edmonton or Sherwood Park, AB, D, 6 ft 1 in, 198 lb, Shoots L, Club Portland

Strengths - Athletic, swift skating puck mover, really gritty, not afraid to lay the lumber on opponents. Has a big shot from the point. One of the better skaters in the draft. Weaknesses - has sense issues in the defensive zone, doesn't always make the right decisions and reads. Will need to learn to pick his spots offensively. NHL Upside - Number three or four defenceman who will see lots of power play time, providing he corrects some risky defensive habits.

Round 2

31. Edmonton - D. Musil, Calgary, AB, D, 6 ft 3 in, 191 lb, Shoots L, Club Vancouver

32. St. Louis - T. Rattie, Calgary or Airdrie, AB, RW, 6 ft 0 in, 167 lb, Shoots R, Club Portland

Round 4

106. New York R. - M. St. Croix, Winnipeg, MB, C, 5 ft 11 in, 179 lb, Shoots R, Club Edmonton

A forward with very good offensive skills. A good passer and finisher. A quick skater who could still develop his movement.

107. Buffalo - C. Jacobs, Coppell, TX, C, 6'1, 198 lb, Shoots R, Club Seattle

111. Phoenix - K. Kessy, Shaunavon, SK, LW, 6'2, 185 lb, Shoots L, Club Medicine Hat

Similar to Bouwmeester?

Not a chance.

I've heard different things about him, who knows, and I think they were referring to player style, not actual player quality.

So how do you think the dub has done so far, I'm happy where the 1st 3 wen't, McNeill maybe should have gone higher, Morrow was a nice pick, Rattie should have probably been picked.

Some parts of their games may be alike, not all of them obviously.
