• Through the first round of the 2011 playoffs, he was second on the Voltigeurs with eight points (3-5--8) in their four-game series win over Chicoutimi.
• After finishing in a tie for fourth in league scoring with 96 points (36-60--96) this season, Couturier was named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player, the Top 2011 Draft Prospect and selected a First-Team All-Star. He also finished second in the league with a plus-55 rating.
• He was the youngest and only draft-eligible player on Team Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships, winning a silver medal. He also won a gold medal with Canada’s Under-18 team at the 2009 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament.
• Couturier led the QMJHL in scoring with 96 points (41-55--96) in 2009-10, becoming the first 17-year-old to lead the league in scoring since Sidney Crosby of the Rimouski Oceanic in 2004-05. He also led the team with a plus-62 rating while often playing against the opposition’s top players.
• His father, Sylvain, was drafted 65th overall by Los Angeles in 1986 and played 33 games with the Kings between 1988-89 and 1991-92 – he is now the General Manager of the Acadie-Bathurst Titans in the QMJHL.
• Couturier played for the Notre Dame Hounds in 2007-08, winning the Saskatchewan Midget AAA championship alongside Jaden Schwartz (14th overall by St. Louis in 2010) and Brandon Gormley (13th overall by Phoenix in 2010).

SAINT JOHN - Sean Couturier's path to the NHL entry draft isn't a folksy tale of a tyke playing shinny on a frozen pond.
He was born in sunny Arizona and began honing his hockey skills in Germany.
The great frozen game wasn't king in the places Couturier lived for the first few years of his life. But he eventually moved to Bathurst, N.B., where hockey is part of the community's cultural fabric and a way to cope with harsh winters.
“I played my minor hockey there and I went to school there,'' said Sean. “That's where I consider myself from. It's a beautiful little city and it's always fun going back home.''
The reason Couturier calls Bathurst home is that his father, Sylvain, is the general manager of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Acadie-Bathurst Titan. The elder Couturier often winces while watching his players try to stop his son, a star centre with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Q: On the chances of playing in the NHL next year
“For sure this summer I’ve got to work hard. My main goal is to make the NHL next year. Once I get to camp I’ll be prepared. It’s up to the GM and staff to decide. I can’t really control that.”
Q: Had the Flyers been in touch with you?
“Yeah, actually I met them for the first time last night. It was a pretty good meeting. They seemed to have a lot of interest, but anything can happen in the draft. But now that the draft is over, I’m really glad to be a part of the Philadelphia Flyers.”
Q: Who did you meet with?
“Pretty much the whole staff was there.”
Q: Did you have a team in mind?
“No, not really. I didn’t really have any favorite team or anything. I didn’t really know what to expect. So just going to Philadelphia, I’m really happy.”
Q: Who did you root for growing up?
“I grew up following the Montreal Canadiens, but I wasn’t really a die-hard fan or anything.”
