Nice :handclap:

Well, he's a scorer but the foot speed is a concern to me. Decent value here, though. Just liked a few guys better.

Vashanesh 06-24-2011 09:51 PM

Joe Pavelski comparisons? Adam freaking Oates comparisons?

Holy eff, I'll take that any day of the week!

Jarick 06-24-2011 09:52 PM

Wow. Great hands, can score and make plays, not the best skater. Curious to see how he builds on this year.

Orava 06-24-2011 09:52 PM

I really like this pick.

Edit: At least we didn't pick another Swede:naughty:

llamapalooza 06-24-2011 09:52 PM

Hey! A player I've heard of!

BLBarmada 06-24-2011 09:54 PM

He's really good. I'm very very pleased with this pick, saw during the memorial cup. He played okay but he was injured shoulder iirc it would be nice if we could somehow add jurco. But this is a good pick who's coming from a great organization.

Pajicz 06-24-2011 09:54 PM

Was hoping that it would be Jurco;

"From the Memorial Cup winning Saint John Sea Dogs..."
YES!
"...Zack Phillips."
HE*L NO!

Dr Jan Itor 06-24-2011 09:54 PM

Put up some good O in the Q. Slow feet. Sounds familiar... uh oh.

rynryn 06-24-2011 09:54 PM

we have a lot of centers now.

Jarick 06-24-2011 09:54 PM

Another cool thing, only three draft eligible players (at least in Bob McKenzie's ranking) scored more points than him. Could be a steal!

saywut 06-24-2011 09:55 PM

Like him at #28. Complete player, versatile. Skating is good enough. Not a huge risk.

Yeah, I really thought it was going to be Jurco when he started saying that.

BLBarmada 06-24-2011 10:00 PM

Juco is very skilled but IMO a bigger risk. A little soft but very very flashy. Either one would of been a god pick.

Caior89 06-24-2011 10:01 PM

IMO, a steal at 28th.

Foxlockbox 06-24-2011 10:02 PM

Seems like a clear BPA pick to me.

I know, I've just been praying for something flashy since our first pick, which... well, wasn't flashy.

BuddyMcCormick 06-24-2011 10:10 PM

Again, just an ESPN grading of Phillips.

Seems like a little bit of a project. You can always improve one's skating (to a point) right?

BLBarmada 06-24-2011 10:11 PM

True we could use flair. I live in Quebec and I will get the chance to see him play next year, I'll be keeping a close watch on him. As for Jurco hes going to be a steal for whoever drafts him. Maybe CF trades up for him tomorrow.

we'd need to find a 2nd to start with. we dont have ours this year or next.

on ZP - i have no problem with this pick. for every james sheppard we have an andrew brunette. optimism is better than pessimism. I'd really like GMCF to find a way to grab grimaldi

BigT2002 06-24-2011 10:40 PM

At this rate I have a feeling Coyle and Granlund may end up on the wings??? Why did we get Wellman and company at this point?

Meh. Just making up for the 8-9 years we greatly lacked them.

tyratoku 06-24-2011 11:00 PM

Might as well take after teams like the Pens and have a 1-2-3 punch down the middle. Coyle, Zucker, Seto, Larsson, Bulmer, and Haula are hopefully gonna be longstanding here on the wings. I came out of this draft a lot more confident in this team going forward. Just not for this next season :sarcasm:

Engebretson 06-24-2011 11:15 PM

Very happy with this pick. Foot speed and consistency seem to be the two biggest knocks on him, but I think a taste of success in the Q might make him hungry for more and improve himself. We could have done a lot worse with this pick.

dutsk 06-24-2011 11:24 PM

IIRC last year the biggest knock on skinner was foot speed/ acceleration.
